My wife was given an attractive, large lantern as a B-day present recently. It is a four sided, clear glass affair meant for candle light. Apart from adapting it to take an electric bulb which is very straight forward, I would also like to able to colour each glass panel a different colour and have lettering on each panel too. This lettering can either be black to obscure light or relieved into the colour to emit light. As we have so many folks here who are talented in the arty crafty department I thought I'd ask here first. I found ways to chemically stain the glass but this will not allow lettering. Maybe some kind of printable coloured/can-take-colour sheeting? Any ideas most welcome.

Nice one Chris, that's exactly the sort of thing I was hoping for.
Many thanks.

Nice one Chris, that's exactly the sort of thing I was hoping for. Many thanks. No Problem Chris, do you want me to send you a sheet first to experiment on, just to make sure it is good enough for the job before you buy some?

Thank you for the kind offer Chris. As it's quite cheap I'll go ahead and buy a couple of packs, ideas are now popping up like spring daffodils.

As Chris was kind enough to point me in the right direction I thought it only right to show a product of said process. The plan for lantern changed a little to produce this (looks better than my poor photo shows)...

That's very effective Chris nice lantern, nice work it's great what you can do when you cast around a little, did you use Crispy Chris's recommendation for the sticky printable letraset?
Regards,
Alan

Hi Alan, Yes, exactly that. I only wasted one sheet for setting colour balances as a reference and was then good to go. It may be a good choice for using perspex, back lit, panels on DIY kit
