Hi
I was wondering what the sonic results would be of replacing the 16v 1000uf nichicon MUSE capacitors in position C110 & C210, that come in mikes kit, for 16v 470uf nichicon MUSE caps. The ones in the kit seem a bit unwieldy and although I don't think I will have any problems with clearance, in case I need to go for the smaller values I thought I would ask people of more experience their opinions, accepting of course that different peoples perception of music can be subjective at the best of times.

I can send you 470uF if you'd prefer, they're slightly smaller "physically"...... the 1000uF are the best "catchall" value.
With low impedance 'phones (32 ohm) the 470uF will cut off at about 11Hz.... with 1000uF the cut off will be 5Hz.
1000uF is best if you are using low impedance 'phones.
If you are using mid to high impedance phones:
300 ohm impedance with 1000uF output caps: 0.53Hz 300 ohm impedance with 470uF output caps: 1.13
1000uF is the "best" for 32 - 600 ohm 'phones.
Mike.

Thank you for the reply mike, my HD600s are 300 ohm so right in the middle of the cut off zone, so if I understand correctly, the bass is extended will this have any effect on the treble frequencies as well? I will give the larger a go if I do need the smaller ones I will get back to you, I need to anyway as I have found my valves are shot - as you predicted and you do some very nice ones I believe.
