I've got a Bumblebee ST-550 kit on the way Comes with frame / brushless motors / ESC / Control unit etc. All I have to add is a UBEC, battery, battery charger, transmitter, receiver etc. It will be a build it from the ground up project and three of us are getting involved with a view to using it for aerial photography. We are starting with the basic setup and will then move onto hexacopter / GPS / NAZA / FPV / GoPro camera type rig once we are comfortable flying the Bumblebee...... Will let you all know how the Bumblebee build goes

That'll be fantastic. Here's the guy who didn't want a camera to snoop eh? You definitely don't want to crash something like that with a camera onboard. Those Youtube shots look like the heli was a long way up in the sky too. You'll need to strap binoculars onto your eyes!!!

The Bumblebee is almost ready for it's maiden flight! Sam, the technical director, is just finalising the settings and I will be taking it out for a test flight in the next few days (weather dependant!). I built the frame up and he is doing all the complicated settings..... he's had it hovering and reckons it's as stable as a rock.... really looking forward to flying this puppy!

That thing actually sounds like a bee hive! Hi Chris, It's a serious bit of kit and, yes...... it sounds like a HIVE of bees when it's airborn..... the total build cost, so far, has been about £450. I'm going to master flying it and then go down the route of GPS and onboard go pro camera with FPV (first person view) cockpit view goggles. The little Hubsan X4 / Twister Quad etc. are good kid's toys but I want to get into serious FPV flying and the Bumblebee is a toe in the water job..... Small steps..... I'll learn how to fling it about manually and THEN go down the NAZA / GPS / Onboard camera with gimbal / FPV route....... I'll upload a few under the hood pics next time I'm out with the camera..... a BIG thanks to Sam for programming everything.

Chris, Just to give you an idea of the "size" of the Bumblebee Quad I took a vid of the Twister Quad taking off from the top of the Bumble View in HD: I'm waiting for a calm day to get the Bumblebee outside for a flight.... I had it outside a couple of days ago for a few minutes and it's a great bird to fly! I haven't tested failsafe mode yet, where it will land itself at the flick of a switch, but she seems to be firing on all four cylinders in manual mode..... Sam has also programmed in "mental mode" for top speed / performance but, again, I haven't flicked that switch "yet" Range should be a couple of miles, again, that has to be tested...... I'm really hoping the weather improves a bit so I can put this thing through it's paces. Mike. PS: Currently running a 5200mAh 11.V 3S battery.... will also be trying 2200mAh / 3000mAh / 4200mAh and 6000mAh.
