Anyone remember Scintrex?
I have a mention of them in a 1975 catalogue for one of the famous Olympia audio fairs. I have no magazines from that time but they would have been advertised in Hi-Fi News etc.
I had a pair... they were cheaper than Sennheiser HD414s (which were understandably popular) so that's what I had to go for as I was a very junior Civil Servant on a low salary and had just managed to get our first mortgage on a £9,000 house!
Can't remember the model number of the Scintrex but they had a very modern look; small and rectangular beige plastic earpieces, oriented vertically and sat on the ear cushioned with a slim pad of black (?) Declon type foam. A tightly coiled cable, left entry with signal passed to the right earpiece through metal headband hoops. There were sliding metal contacts and these got dirty and caused frequent dropouts.
Sound quality NOt on a par with the contemporary HD414s.. but not bad for the money which could have been 12 to 14 pounds or thereabouts? I bought them at Hampshire Audio, Chandlers' Ford.
Found a few Scintrex pics on tinternet but not of the ones I had.
