Pretty screwed up news since the only tubes I am currently working with are the Sovtek 6H30 (presently in the $20 per area) and 6N1P (around $7 per) with the 6N1P being run "hot" which means a short lifespan but being dirt cheap painless to replace yearly though now what happens is anyones guess : www.iht.com/articles/2006/05/09/business/cheat.phpI do not and will not read the NY Times newspaper until they stop playing politics and begin reporting the news again. In recent years they have been in the habit of printing outright lies on the front page then when the act is pointed out for what it is they hide the disclaimer on page 543 leaving the impresssion that the headlline is true since that is the part remebered so I was made aware of this here : www.audioasylum.com/scripts/t.pl?f=tubes&m=180094SED (winged "C" brand) and Electro-Harmonix are also the same manufacturing plant and again is a bitch since I am moving away from SET and into PPT for driving my speakers (I NEED more rockability than my SET amp affords ) the world is f**ked up enough without this kind of crap spilling over into the audio arena and these products being solely the domain of the musician and audiophile/audio manufacturer that is exactly what it is.The market is huge which means there is a lot of loot around and not all countries play by normal rules of commerce when they want "in"

So let me get this straight Rick... if the two of us take a trip over to Russia and walk into a valve factory armed with baseball bats we get to take control of the factory? Yeh, I like it! True democracy in action...... when do we leave for Moscow?

better bring more than a couple of baseball bats dude !Those jokers play for keeps. This story is like something out of the dark ages where those with the biggest guns or the most muscle take what they want from any who are too weak to protect themselves and why we have laws that punish such things in a modern society. THIS type of action is more akin to a third world-third rate nation than anything resembling a so called world power with aspirations to international respect. Bullies in general are a thing I particularly despise and always have which is probably why I have always gone after the biggest and the baddest when there are multiple targets on my radar screen. (also a good idea to get the head danger mouse out of the way clearing the path to taking out the trash.Second bananas are followers that fall apart once the alpha is taken down ) I personally only admire those with enough balls to go strength-to-strength and never the ones who pick their targets according to who is an easy one which is the only true way to separate out the pretenders and punks from the true scary monsters I hope they can work something out because if there is one thing i have noticed over the years is the russians are not the most business minded/industry driven folks out there and if the "mafia" gets control of the factories I expect the tube supply to either dry up,become more expensive as the profit "pie" has more slices in it,the quality control will be less or all the above. If they were so good at running this business it would not have taken an "outsider" to get that industry where it is presently. These guys want all the profit without doing any of the work and it is a story as old as humanity

Hey, Why not go SOLID? Tubes are things of the past, you know with Intel and all. Heehee. Personally, I like Toshiba FETs. Anyways, do not be worried. Where there is money, there is business. Someone will find a way to continue producing tubes after ... whatever. I am sure of this because Ei tubes are still around after that civil war. Oh another thing. I am sorry I won't make that baseball-bat-wielding-beatdown. You know our motto in foreign policy here in Japan? Kiss-arse and ambiguity. A perfect combination for ultra-unreliability. (Remember BSE?) Tomo P.S. If Japanese minister of foreign effairs reading this, I would like to use this opportunity to say this to you. "Eat "
