Using a Pure i-20 as a transport I`m currently extracting the raw digital data from loss-less/wav files stored on my 160gb Ipod classic ,bypassing the ipod`s internal dac and processing it via the Pure i-20`s inbuilt dac . this is connected to a x10d (waiting for mikes mod kit to be fitted) then to my modded xcan v2 and a pair of sennheiser hd595`s. The resulting sound is excellent apart from slightly excessive sibilance (to my 50 odd year old ears that is) i`ve got the chance to buy an mf x24k which my heart wants but my head says i`d be better off spending the extra £50 on a more modern dac such as the mf v dac 2. do you think a x24k would offer a more analog sound against todays more modern dacs ?

Nice rig you have there! I had an MF X-Dac and liked its sound a lot. I have not listened to the new offering by MF so I can not compare them. I guess a lot will also have to do with space and features, good luck.

Why not go for a Sabre dac? That will last you a long time before becoming obsolete again.
Hey, that Pure thingy looks like the very first generation Philips cdp.

Thanks, will look into it , your correct the pure i-20 is sat on the 30 year old first generation philips cd100 player ,built like a brick and still in great working order ,still sounds great via the x10 and the xcan v2 , although the i-20 is definately a step up in terms of sound . unfortunately being one of the first ever cd players there is no co axial output to run through a dac. regards, tim

In the X-10D and X-Can V2, you already have about the best VFM tube buffer and HPA that you can have. Many own them. I myself a few months ago acquired the X-Can V2 after being caught in the X-Can V2 paranoia from reading the forums and have about half moded it before being stuck in the computer audio OCD stuff. Most owners will state that it will be their top 5 HPAs that they will use again and again. Btw, have you fully moded the X-Can V2?

XTRprof , the V2 has been fully modded and sounds great , listening again this week , the Dac in the pure is exceptional for the money , will probably stick with it for now . thanks, tim.
