Hi everyone, this is a simple one for you. the x10dv3 is modded as per PF, its nice. So i want to utilise it a bit more. It only has one input and 2 if you cheat.......so i want to make a little switcher box for the top of it to allow for TV airport and the like to feed into it one at a time. I want to be able to have a feed of about 4-6 inputs, then a selector to choose which of those feeds goes into the tube buffer. Can you recommend a circular source selector, bit like whats on amps and the like. Would i need to put power to the selector. I hope i dont and it would be simple as to do. just need a good audio selector recommended. many thanks

Check out the switcher box by Dr. Lloyd of Mapletree Audio, a Canadian company.

I was thinking of making it myself. Can't be too complex. Simples?

Nope. Sorry. I'm new to all this.
It is 3 pole I need for stereo L+R+earth. Is it ok to join all earths together? It is earth after all?

You could go: 4 pole so each channel has in and out seperated; 3 pole so R & L and ground; 2 pole R & L and just join up all the signal grounds. 2 pole looks like the norm unless you go for 4 pole( balanced) which consumer audio is not designed around, even boutique selectors are 2 pole or 4 pole.

Ok. Thanks. Looks like 2 pole will do. I will be modding the x10v3 case so can tap into the existing ground around the case. Socket ground to touch case.
Should be ok.
Only found that supplier with such parts in the US, anybody know of a quality audio parts supplier this side of the pond? Not Farnell maplins, but a smaller establishment.
Mike do you have a 2 pole 4 way switch?

If 4 inputs are enoough and you want to do some soldering there are relay kits on ebay, the pcb goes close to the input and then the selector switch can be further away so the signal path is a little shorter. Relays should be marginally better than mechanical switches as the contact is secured with a little force.
For a mechanical selector you need to decide how to do the wiring, solid core sounds better than multi strand, but stiff single core is a nightmare if you solder the bits together before they go in the box. Also phono sockets become a pain to put through a roughly drilled hole, which sounds like a non-issue until you find the drill bits don't always match the size of the sockets. Mechanical can a short signal path by using an extension rod arrangement like hificollective do.

Great stuff. I Will put the switch on existing x10dv3 housing. Saves having 1 more interconnect and makes it easier.
