My x cans v2 makes a very nice line level buffer amp. However, the level of background hiss is too high with it connected like this. Would it be possible to switch a gain stage in/out, and if so, how?
I don't want to use a resistor attenuator to reduce gain at the output.
TIA, Paul

You can lower the overall gain (which could reduce noise levels) but cannot predict if the amp becomes unstable. Judging from the widely sprinkled Miller caps this might be the case. This will have to be checked with a 100MHz scope. safest bet is an attenuator (voltage divider) at the output. Preferably low Ohmic (say 1kOhm load in total)

There is a thread on lowering the gain of the V2, I believe Mike had it posted as a mod as well. I performed the mod and I am happy with the lower output since I listen at low volume. Good luck.
