How do you all connect your X-CANv3's to your source? I've had an odd situation with my X-CAN recently while listening to different DAC's. I originally used a MF X-DACv3 with a MF-X10v3 connected up to the input of the X-CAN, the X-CAN output then went to my amplifier. This setup performed nicely for years. However recently I started to look for a new DAC I tried the Cambridge Audio DACmagic plus, Audiolab M-DAC and the Rega DAC. All listening was done throught the amp / speakers but when I used the headphones the Rega DAC performed very poorly, bass was distorted. To me it sounded as though the DAC output was to high, I changed the connections of my system so the DAC went straight to the amplifier and the X-CANs now connect the tape output of my amp. The amp. seems to attenuate the DAC signal and the Rega DAC now sounds as expected.
Has anyone experienced anything similar, I don't understand why only the Rega DAC had the problem?
Thanks

My signal chain is CD to DAC to buffer to V2. I remember a year or so ago I connected up my V2 output to a spare input on my main amp. Music sounded fine through that chain and out through my speakers, but later that night when I sat down to listen to my headphone rig, I heard a definite distortion. I was listening through my Grado's and thought "Oh, No, I've got the Grado Grackle". I actually stopped listening there and then and took my SR80's apart to check the drivers! It wasn't till I hooked up my 595's and found the same distortion that I realised something else was amiss. I thought back to the afternoon and the only change I had made to my system and quickly unplugged the cable from the V2 output. Distortion gone. As to why it was fine for years with one dac then started playing up when using another is probably a question for our tech guru's like Frans and Sandy. They'll probably use highly technical electronic engineering terms, but we all secretly know that the magic fairies that live in the boxes and make the music sometimes just don't get on with each other.Jeff

I have been looking for the wrong 'buggers' all these years. Fairies is what I have to look for.... I had been searching for the yellow creatures that appear in 'despicable me' all that time. ;D If you haven't seen that cartoon all I can say is .. you should.
