Does anyone have any experience of valve (tube) dampers ? They are offered in various forms but the most prolific seem to be simple silicone rings.....do they make a difference sonically ?

I have various and cannot hear a difference unless I purposely tap the amp/valve. However if used with speakers at high volume they may reduce any noise brought on by valve vibration.

Thanks for the info guys.....the question of vibration feedback from speakers would I'm sure be valid but I'm only using valves in headphone amps so doesn't apply. I have tried spring tensioned teflon rings in a MF V1 but they were naff and they killed the "fluidity" I was hearing from the excellent 6H23n EB valves.I am tempted by the "Herbies",they get good reviews altho' not sure if there's room in a V1.Will have to look again at dimensions etc.

Not sure about room in the V1 but using some of Mike's patented "Funky Fitting" on the top board they fit O.K. inside my V2. P.S. Apologies for the quality of the shot

Thanks for that Jeff, looks as if I'll have to do some "shifting" myself if they're going to fit.At present the PSU cap's (now 1500 uF) are very close to the rear valve. All good fun !!

I have been using four EAT Cool Dampers in my PL Prologue Two (for preamp tubes 5751 and 12AU7) for several years now...Knowing that I liked tube equipment, dealer let me the first sample to test over a weekend. Result? I returned them next Monday and asked for my own set in red. In my set-up is was like giving "perfect" focus on the recording event, it was noticeable. I was a little skeptical on those devices as I already have the amp on a Soundstyle rack with several vibration-damping and decoupling measures (including improved Artesania Audio feet). Apart from that, dealer claims they also extend tube life as they help natural convection of the tube itself. I also got Duende Creatura tube rings for the KT88s but I could not point to any particular area of improve in the sound.
