OK folks, what do you have planned diy-wise in 2012? Apart from the house side of things, I'm planning on, in no particular order... Getting the PSU's built up for the musicPC and getting the thing cased up! Finish building my AK Class A HA/Pre on new pcb's The AK Mods SC Class A Build a PK Dac and a couple of new group projects for later in the year if you guys are interested (a discrete front end/chip buffer HA with onboard JLH - in SMD and a dual mono dac (codename:twintub )

Will I presently have a dual relay dual JLH for SMPS "soak testing" on the bench.(a more advanced version of that previously posted) After "soak testing" it will be tried in line with my internal LG BR writer and fitted in a spare Optical drive bay. I also hope to try the new (February ) S.C. Crystal DAC PCB with discrete output stage in the S.C. DAC, if the PCB and bits become available as a kit.I will of course try the new Class A PSUs , and at a later date the new Class A PCBs.The problem for me is that the Class A is used every day with DTV etc., so I hate the thought of days without it. Regards Alex

Hi Will
a new pair of speakers is on the cards for me.
not sure what to build yet but a pair of pro ac clones might be a possibility.
I'm still thinking of trying a buffalo DAC at some point also.
take care

Hi all,
I intend to build the PK (+PS and JLH boards) as soon as I can get hold of one of the newer WaveIO boards.

Must finish my DAC, must finish my DAC, must finish my DAC... I shall finish my DAC, I shall finish my DAC, I shall finish my DAC...
That ^^^ and experiment with a low power dedicated music player. I've build it already (assembled and installed), but it's useless without a USB DAC, so...
Must finish my DAC, must finish my DAC, must finish my DAC... I shall finish my DAC, I shall finish my DAC, I shall finish my DAC...
So, in brief, I should finish my DAC.
And if that DAC is finished, there's a Panda amp that needs boxing up and a 41Hz Tripath based amp waiting to be build.

I now have my PK to merge with my SCHA and need to pop them into a single case.
The A Class power amp is going to be the biggy, hopefully letting loose my SBLs.
The A Class pre is not cased either, though that was deliberate as I may want to match visually with the power.
Then it looks like there may a new board for the HQDAC to deal with too, that also needs a new case after the PSU mods.

some new horn speakers (2 way 12" woofer/Tractrix treble mid/high horn, BMS coax driver), a new HP amp (kind of like a G2 but with the 12AU7 driven with real voltage), a new pre amp for my turntable (solid state discrete), a rebuild of my main systems 2x 60W tube power amp with MOSFET driver/inverter stage (volume pot and source switching/RCA connectors).
I will also be experimenting with power supplies for my mobile recording gear. If there is any time left over, I will try to build some electrostatic headphones just to see how far that I can get before frying my ears.

hi will I've heard the single driver version and they were good. woodwork is the big problem for me and I'm even worse at that than metal work. i like most of the pro ac's I've heard and i have found a few designs based on them. I've owned tablets, super tablets and super towers the later being my faves. i may go looking on the second hand market (er bottling out of the wood work) and see what's around. as far as i know pro-ac design most of their own drivers so it's more a case of getting as close as possible. the thing that I've found with pro-ac designs is the just love music. take care

After January my exams will be over and I'll finally have a chance to sit down and build my C.H.AMP. I'm really looking forward to building/hearing it, but equally terrified of cocking it up given that there's no chance of a replacement PCB...
I also might finally build my gamma1 DAC later on, if I decide that it's necessary/I get bored.
Currently most of my soldering equipment/tools are in cardboard boxes after the ceiling in my room collapsed (long story). Hopefully it won't be too long before I can burn some holes in that new carpet!

But with Alex's LTP balancing trick and onborad JLH's? Could be good for Voltage output DAC's too. Allan

Allan Hi Allan, You seem to be reading my mind Leo pointed the ventus out to me a few years back, and the idea stuck with me. It seems to be nice straightforward way of improving my knowledge of analog (as my little sabre dac was for digital) The main difference is that it'll for normal SE use, rather than balanced and use those nice LS devices, as I have plenty of spare ones! On the dac, it'll be based on the WM8804/wm8741 which after I'd figured out how things will work, and what's needed, is basically a dual TP Opus

Discrete input to buffer has a few possibilities. www.raylectronics.nl/outputstage_en.html into the buffer to get rid of the output coupling cap could even add CFP input too. would be a simple output for the WM8741 The TP stuff does work well but limited for too much modding. PITB to remove components (Through hole ones) as the holes and pads are too small Allan

Waiting for Prof Frans to come up with a mono hybrid (tube/Fet/Mosfet) discrete HA of at least 1 to 2 W for most HP nominal impedances. Sabre 3? Hmm, must check the bank or rob the bank first. Must check free time too as I don't want to write 1000 lines to my former teachers probably in the graves.
