Well its time for a new MP3 player (portable)

My old Cowon D2 has served me well but the on off switch snapped off about 6 months ago and I have been using a needle to turn it on and off ;D

So its time for me to upgrade and I was thinking the Cowon S9 but 32Gig I mean come on if you can get a load on there why not and have been more than happy with the sound quality being put into my into my SR80i headphones.
Now here is the thing I can't help but feel these MP3 players are coming out with so much gumpf added now and you can do the most of it with your mobile phone. I don't mind it but why not release an MP3 player that is just that and has the quality of sound too!!??!!
So I then look at the Cowon i10 32gig cheaper but is the quality there??
Then there is the Creative Zen 32gig coming in well cheap from what I have seen....
and how about the Sony X-Series Walkman which also looking very nice indeed.

As ever here is the problem, don't you want just want one shop near you that could walk in and try each I do, but nope its not there......

Finally there is the question of seeing as I am could put the MP3 through the Neco headphone amp I have before hitting my headphones so could I get something slightly inferior and get round it via this???

Anyone had any experience of said MP3 players or suggestions of others? The feedback would be greatly appreciated

Oh and no I still haven't got that X-Can amp but I am still hunting and who knows what the after xmas ebay may bring but first things first and on top of all that I want a turntable again its been to long and my vinyl needs digging out......ah the temptation and joys of your HIFI equipment and its constantly nagging upgradable possibilitys.......

Thought about a Sansa Clip or Fuse?
The Fuse has video.
Both have 8Gb on board but can expand to to 40 Gb with a 32 Gb SD card.
Both have excellent SQ and are well liked here.

I'd confirm what Jeff said, but add that I think it makes sense to buy the (cheaper) 2GB version of the Sansa Clip+ (under £30) and use the money saved to buy some Micro SDHC cards (I've got eight for mine, ranging in size from 4 to 16GB).

That said, I'd struggle if I was at the heady heights of a Cowon to go 'back' to something like a Sansa Clip+...

I hear you but as you say pulling away from the heights of a Cowon is a hard thing to do it does just sound so awesome!!!
One of my earlier statements I feel a tad stupid on as I often tell other people its down to the original source/player can have a £1000+ amp but if your turntable/cd player is crap then its pointless

Reason I was looking to a larger capacity player is to avoid having lots of cards as I want to chuck a load on and not have lots of little bits just a good sized inbuilt storage, but to get that and the quality without the gumph is ie. Vid/radio/internet/android bla bla bla seems to be a nightmare!!!!!!

I'm still a bit I don't know "old fashioned" for want of a better phrase.......don't download but still like to buy something physical then rip a flac file for MP3 player and cd at home. Considering going converting to streaming (as a mate has and its lovely and I was impressed!) but would use the same process.........god help me if I end up getting a turntable again but I have so much old stuff you can't get now and I would love to hear again and that would lead me undoubtably to buying more vinyl lol

But for now the hunt is on for as large capacity a mobile MP3 as I can afford with no back step in quality well unless I go cheaper and then get either a x-can or turntable bargin.........the hardware side of music can be frustrating!!!!!!

Gonna turn on the D2 with make shift on button needle, stop waffling and take the dog for a walk.........easy!!!!!!!!!!!

Well when push came to shove and while doing a little research I came across a J3 B-Grade on a site. Same site I got my D2 B-Grade from a while back, same B-Grade reason 'open box'.
Still a J3 at £70 off was to much to resist, did ponder on a B-Grade X7 but thought 120gig for a portable was prob probably overkill for me and the extra size (physical) was a put off and extra screen size pointless for me as its for sounds not pics or films. . . . .

Only frustrating thing I HAVE TO WAIT TILL XMAS TO USE IT!!!!!!!! Hahaha

Anyone bought a Ringke??? I have a similar silicone cover for my phone and quite like the less bulk approach to protection and feel of it. That and a screen protector should see my ears sweetly for a while I figure.

Know how you feel about waiting for Christmas: today I took delivery of a camera that's been designated as my pressie from SWMBO. I've had to content myself with a quick visual check to see if it's OK (it was off eBay) and then back in the box it went...

god i cant wait for christmas. im getting the dt-990 pro's from my dad, and i have 300$ im split on the decision to spend it on... i could either get an aune dac or a very nice airsoft gun... stay inside and listen to music... or play in the forest... choice of the century

Well the j3 fell trough as someone beat me to it!!!
Waited a b.grade x7 came up. Got it and scratched on back so not as new as described. Complained, no questions asked brand new one sent at same price! Nice!
Led in bed 'testing' now, on its own with the Sr80i's to fiddle neco can come on later. . . .

In my freaking element, love it, so much space and that Cowon quality.

What a way to finish xmas day, let the music flow. . . . Bloody loads of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just incase you wonder. . . .
Fiddling with all the bbe nonsense at moment.
The neco will be added as I tended to run my D2 with. no bbe or equalizer stuff, add the neco let that work its magic and onto headphones. Keep it simple but soundegmmd to me and imagine will do the same with X7. . . .

Sounds blinking good at mo though, across the board.
