Hi,
I've recently bought an X10v3 secondhand and only just noticed that there is hissing/crackling from the right hand channel when the volume pot is at 12 o'clock onwards. Obviously I can't listen to music at that volume but wondered if the hiss/crackle is normal or is the valve on it's way out. It's been like this for about a week now and hasn't got any worse. I'm running the buffer between a Musical fidelity A308 CD and an A308 Int amp.
Any info or help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Roy.

If so, the valve is on it's way out. I sell brand new (sealed) NOS 6112 valves (the ones fitted in the V3) so don't worry, they are quite cheap to replace but you will have to solder them onto the board. All the best, Mike.

Hi Mike,
It's not a swirling hiss just a steady hiss with bursts of crackles and it's at different levels in volume i.e one minute it's loud the next it's fairly quiet. It's definately not the CD or Amp as everything sounds fine when the X10 isn't connected If it is the valve are they easy to replace/solder for a complete novice or is there somewhere you can suggest I can send it to for the replacement?.
Thanks for your help.
Roy

Roy Sounds like a valve to me Roy... pity they're not socketed or you could switch them over and if the crackle / hiss migrates to the other channel then you know it's the valve. I wouldn't recommend it if you are a "total" novice.... you can ship the V3 to me and I'll fit them for you.... the shipping is the costly part so if you can only send the board and back panel it will be a lot cheaper to post. Mike.

Roy, since you are shipping the unit might as well have Mike do his "full monty" mods on the unit. I did and loved it. Good luck.
