There are some USB DACs that will take DSD streams and decode it to analogue but not pass it through to another decoder like the Denon. Also there is the DIY way, you can buy USB adapters that will take DSD like the exaU2I or USB PAL.

" For direct DSD playback ASIO driver with DSD support is required..." Hi Javier, Without doing some Sherlock Holmes, any idea whether the ASIO and WASAPI you directed us to support DSD? This is to be ever ready. Thanks.

Hey all! New member here. I joined so that I could get some help modding my Muse Tube Headphone amp. Everyone seems very friendly here so I though I'd add to this post with a few interesting links. Foobar Visual Styles: foo-nation.deviantart.com/gallery/24533224There are some very nice styles there for foobar 1.x. There are many more on Deviant. DSP Plugins: When I am listening on my studio monitors, I usually don't add any DSPs but for earphones some are essential for me. I am currently experimenting between two setups but still haven't made up my mind which I like better. Option 1) Bauer stereophonic-to-binaural DSP Option 1.2) Crossfeed. Both of the above essentially do the same thing. Reduce fatigue while listening with headphones. Option 2) 1st chain: Channel Mixer 2 -> 6 channels. No upmix, Subwoofer off. 2nd chain: Dolby Headphone. You need to get the Dolby dll for this to work. Hope this helps someone

Welcome Addam, With an attitude like that about sharing your findings you'll fit in very well here IMHO. I'll have a look at the foobar Visuals site later because foobar plays music well but the user interface leaves a bit to be desired . Cheers, Dave.

Warm Welcome Addam,
Very nice of you to share here of Foobar. Stick around and you will definitely get some help on your tube amp from all here.
But you must post at the HP Amp sub forum so as not to dilute the contents here.

Thank you both for the welcome!
Solderdude is helping me with the amp mod. Great guy! But if I have any further questions I will post them in the relevant thread.
If anyone has any questions about Foobar, please feel free to ask or send me a PM. I will help as much as I can.
I will post a screenshot of my Foobar when I get home.

@ Addam, A couple of questions for you: - 1) I run Fidelizer with foobar - this closes down all unecessary PC operations to maximise foobar SQ whilst playing music - presumably the use of your linked skins will conflict with this? 2) I've looked at the Devian site and liked the look of HiFoo but, reading the comments I see that some people have had problems with the installation process. My OS is Win7 Home Premium - if I choose to install HiFoo are you available for help in sorting it out? TIA, Dave.

It's just color, placement settings and components that Foobar loads. The skins don't spawn any extra system services and processes. The only thing I can think of that might be an issue is the Aero Interface for the borders of the Foobar player, but that's another story. I've tried HiFoo and it's working perfectly on my system: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. Try it out but make sure you follow all the installation instructions provided by the skin creator. If something goes wrong, let me know and I will try and help. Be aware that these are for Foobar 1.x. If you are running anything below version 1 then there will be problems. Good Luck!

Welcome to RG Adam, nice looking Foo config it is great to have more people contributing to this thread. New version of the SACD plugin (again!!!!), now upped to 0.4.0, the change log since last version I posted here: 10/21/11: Version 0.4.0 - Experimental: Direct DSD to PCM decimation with 30kHz cutoff. 10/20/11: Version 0.3.14 - Multichannel playback area selection bug fixed. 10/20/11: Version 0.3.13 - Gibbs artifacts reduced. 10/17/11: Version 0.3.12 - Playback area is made preferable. 10/17/11: Version 0.3.11 - Playback area selector added. The selector function hides non wanted content, for example, if "stereo" is chosen muti-channel tracks are not shown. New decoding option sounds FANTASTIC even in its experimetal stage. Highly recommended. This guy deserves a medal, 5 revisions in a week of which only 1 is a bug fix, if I had a company I'll hire him whatever the cost. Hi Addam, It will be interesting if you can share the quality rating of the various players such as Foobar for those that you have compared. So far i rate Foolbar 1.1.8 > VLC 1.1.11 > WMP 12 Btw, an extremely nice GUI you have fior your Foobar. Dave, So far how has Fidilizer improved the sound of your Foobar. Care to share. I haven't done mine yet as I will only do it for a dedicated AV PC or Mac. Shutting down too many background services for a "working" PC will be destructive as then I wouldn't have all the things I need to use. Thnaks all and good morning from Singapore.

Chong, I regard any Fideliser improvement as probable but subtle, certainly not 'night and day'. To add to that I think I should also say that I am not now noticing much improvement with any changes these days. I suspect that this may be because the resolution of my system may have reached it's upper limits. I have no wish to pursue that thought to it's logical (and expensive ) conclusion. Hope this helps a little . Dave.

I haven't installed Fidelizer yet, but my understanding is that it stops glitches during playback through Foobar, by limiting/stopping background Windows processes, rather than improving sound quality per se.

In terms of looks and usability, I would rate Zune tops, but it falls short on customizability and plugins (as there are none).

It does that and some other things like changing the Windows Timer resolution, reasigning processor afinity and changing priority for tasks/services. But it doesn't install itself, it runs during the session and if it SANFUs your system a reboot will bring everything back to its previous state and no dammage done. It optimizes the PC for music playback but makes it shite for everything else, it even stops the printing subsystem so no printing until reboot.

I don't quite understand what you are asking Chong, Foobar ships with a 5.1 to stereo DSP that works very well. You have to add it to the active DSPs from the available DSPs list. Also the sound card can do the down mixing if 2 channel out is selected. Most SACDs and DVD-As have both multichannel and stereo versions of the tracks, so no need to down mix, just play the stereo ones.

Also the sound card can do the down mixing if 2 channel out is selected. Then how come my Foobar just wouldn't play 5 channels stuff and just give error message? You mean I have to download the 5.1 dll and install it or it's already part of foobar for the 5.1 downmix dll? Most SACDs and DVD-As have both multichannel and stereo versions of the tracks, so no need to down mix, just play the stereo ones. That I know and I usually play the stereo version. But somehow or other the stereo and 5.1 are all in the same iso file and so that error message will always come when the play hit the 6 channels tracks. That I want to overcome. Sometimes, worst still, the 5.1 tracks come first for the iso. Well, again game over.

Chong, As I said, it comes with Foobar, no need to install anything. Look at the item pointed by teh red arrow, just add it by double clicking it to the active DSPs. It is really, really easy.

Hi Javier, Now another problem. Most probably 6.1 cannot downmix to stereo and give error message. Any solution?
