Fellas... I've spent hours looking online. I'm looking for a small, table-top cd player with no speakers, bells or whistles. Just something with play, pause, forward, back and track count...
Hoping to stay under $200 and would prefer sound quality sufficient to work well with decent cans.
Ideas?

Yep! Try any of the "Hi-Fi separate" component mini/micro systems, look for just the cdp selling alone. eg Teac PDH300 or 500 anything similar from Denon, Onkyo and the like (just be careful not to get one with a ribbon signal connector, like Technics, Sony, Aiwa, etc usually have, as these can only be used in their intended systems)

you can't buy them new anymore, but the Sony Discmans of the early nineties are superb for this sort of thing, sporting a line out jack and really very decent DAC's inside, I have a D33 model where I use the line out into my X-CAN v2 and it sounds very nice to me with all sorts of different CD's that I listen to at the office :-)
good ones on ebay are sub $50 USD

thanks guys! I think the Teac looks like a perfect fit... Hard to find though... Tried ebay and there was one... Seemed to be in good shape. Will watch it and hope nobody drives the price up. ANy other models I should check out?

Mike, Not me buying I do have a small, El Cheapo DVD player, cost only a tad more than the Maplin jobby, 3 years later still going and cd playback is on par with an old "decent" Panasonic cd-portable. I found another decent brand one too with a USB in to boot! Yamaha CD640 CD/MP3/USB Micro CD Player

Got the TEAC PD-H300 and I'm waiting on the AG-H300 to get here. Going to hook up the old turn-table Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't tested it out yet, but the fit and finish is great!

The TEAC was HARD TO FIND, and I also felt the need to get the matching receiver. It was also hard to find, but I'm glad I took the time. They are a little bigger than I wanted, but sound very good. Thanks!
