No No, as Jeremy says that is relatively "cool" as these things go... the heatsinks are doing their jobs just don't lick them with your tongue!

lol don't worry i prefer burn my tongue with girls The Sunrise is great, IMO the problems was my source (a Cube C60, great mp3 player but the output is not really intended to use with an amp), i will make better tests with my DAC 19.

I have to also add my compliments here as well; my kit (#K0002) went together with no difficulty, largely due to the superb packaging of the components. Sound is outstanding with all of the tubes I have tried thus far. Amazingly, the Sunrise can drive all of my phones with authority including my K1000, K340 and HE6! These are noted for their challenging amplifier requirements. what is the position of your volume pot while listening to the K340? hello i've just tried the "all stock" project sunrise with my AKG K340, the sound is good but i need to set the volume at MAX on the Project sunrise to get a "listenable" volume on my K340s... (My source was a DAP with volume set to the MAX). My Sunrise is All stock with the JJ 6922 Gold pins tube, TC set to "on" (no bypass caps), and output set to "10 Ohms", all parts are stocks including power supply, tube bias set. I suspect that isn't normal that i must set my volume pot to 100% to hear music at a normal volume with my AKG K340 and to 60% with my AKG K601 (which is normally are easy to drive headphones). Can you tell me what kind of settings, or parts do you use on your project Sunrise ? Do you have any advices for the settings, tweaking, checking, etc... Thanks you

I have sold my K340, but IIRC, the volume on my Sunrise was around 1:00 for a decent listening level. I am now listening to my K1000's and the volume is set at 12:00. I am using a PSVANE 12AU7, BPC on the caps and 68 ohm resistors. I am also using a 24v power supply from one of my Virtue amps. It is beefier than the stock switcher. Perhaps your input voltage level is significantly lower than a normal line input. My source is the optical output from my computer running thru an iBasso D12 DAC section. Ripped files are Flac.

What is the bias set to? If it is set to high or low, volume will be very low.

I'have set my bias properly, set the output to 62 Ohms, changed the tube for a Siemens Halske NOS from 62, tried another cable, and tried with a Cowon iAudio U5 as maine source, but i still need to put my volume pot between 75% and 100% to listen my K340...
I will give a try with my DAC when i'll receive the cables to connect my DAC 19 to the Sunrise...
But, the sound is great, and i feel that the Sunrise is enough powerfull to drive my k340 effortlessly, i think my problem is : My k340 is modded, and my source is perhaps not enough powerfull...
I will make another tests when i'll received the cables... but the sound of the Sunrise is far better than my Audio-GD C-2 with MOON OPAs, it means that the little Sunrise is REALLY an amp that rocks !!!

Are you taking the signal from the Cowan's headphone jack socket and is the volume still adjustable with the Cowan MP3 player? The headphone output level is a lot lower than a line out level, even when turned up to maximum on my MP3 player. However, check the menu/settings on the player, my Sony player has a line out option, so that it can output at line level through the headphone jack. This works really well until you forget to change it back again and plug in your headphones.

Yes I tried with both Cowon U5 and Cube C30 headphone jack and it's still just at the limit for the K340... But in 95% of the case i think it's not would be a problem because nobody is enough crazy to use a simple mp3 player with an AKG K340... I will give a try with my DAC... when i'll have the good interconnect... It's frustrating to have to wait...

You could try it with a plain old ordinary interconnect, the quality of the interconnect wouldn't effect the volume and it would prove whether or not there is a problem. If you're like me, you'll have dozens of the the crummy interconnects that they give away with DVDs etc. lying around somewhere.

Bayootiful!! It looks like the New York skyline. 'Sunrise in Tower City'. I'm thinking, little cars and people models and finally get the Blade to land on the heliport. (Looking down at the tube) Have you put 3 heatsinks on each side? I'll be able to cool drinks on it. It's like Christmas here what with the Superlux to test and the Sunrise arriving. Ian

Even nicer IRL man.... it's not the most photogenic of animals with all the shiny plastic but looks the Pig's nads IRL (pig's nads are larger than dogs nads so, therefore, the ULTIMATE compliment). I "was" going to run a conrod between the sinks but decided against it as it would have made valve rolling / impedence adjustment / Valve glow a bit more time consuming...... I've fitted THREE heatsinks (per side) onto yours and kept it simple so if you want to jumper the output impedance from 68 ohm (it is set at 68 ohm) to 10 ohm then all you have to do is undo the four nuts on the top plate, remove the plate by lifting it over the towers, and that gives you access to all the jumpers etc. I was going to fit two heatsinks onto yours and two onto mine but decided to fit the extra four onto yours as I know you have a youngster in the house and I don't want her to burn her fingers.... even with the THREE per side, it is still HOT but not skin removing hot.... you can grasp the sinks for about 9 seconds before exclaiming "ouch" so pretty family friendly The valve shield ALSO dissipates heat from the valve and you can leave your finger on the valve shield all night..... it's hot but it's a "hot water bottle" type of hot. I have no problems with the finger scorchio "single" sinks ( I don't have any children ) and KNOW not to touch (or lick) the Sunrise but you have a rugrat in the house so best to make it as child friendly as possible. The additional "height" of the heatsinks go toward rejecting interference (as does the valve shield) so I think it should be less of an antennae than my one A nice little heater for the winter and a stunning sounding amp.... hope you like it. Will post on Thursday (special delivery) so will be with you on Friday..... EVERYTHING is in the package (don't throw it away before exploring the entire package )... 2500mA "modded" PSU is in the bottom of the package..... I repeat..... don't throw the packaging in the bin without first searching for the contents Mike.

Some pretty wild stuff man! Never tried a triple stack. My guess is she would sit around 55-60C with triples so not finger melting by any means.

Thanks Mike. It's hold a couple of beers on top and keep them cool. My daughter's actually very good with gear. She never touches and never has!! We trained her from baby not to go near anything electrical if it was on. When she crawled towards something, we'd both go aaaargh ..... she'd stop and give us a funny look and change direction. Now she's old enough to know better. (6) (Well that one's 6, the others are old and gone) I blame your packing on my missing the power supply!!! It is unbelieveable. Tell you what, I'll photograph it and put it on here so anyone worried about buying anything or getting it repaired will get it off immediately once they see your work of art!! Seriously, it's the best packing I've ever seen in my life. So good, I even keep the bits in case I need to ship something. 'Dare' will really improve with some warmth and hard bass hitting. The 80's mastering on CD is not always the best but everyone thought that was an excellent sound at the time, in contrast to the warm LP sound. Much preferred the LP version of Dare. If it starts getting warm, I'll hover the Blade over the top. These are the things, these are the things, these are the things...... is Phil Irish by any chance?
Probably not or it would be more a case of "these are the tings" Doze were de daze of me loife......... Ian

Glad you have a photo. If it's the same guy that Mike sent a Little Pinkie to, it'll end up smashed to pieces.
I'm still wondering how the hell a Little Pinkie gets dented!!! That won't stand a chance!!
You'll need to put it in a lead box I reckon.
I hope that this isn't the same guy 'cos I smell a rat. (Maybe compare notes with Mike?)

I've become a 'power' freak tbh. Once you hear the dynamics a properly powered up amp delivers, you can't go back.
I now listen for dynamic range which is totally different to listening to tunes!!
However, some people aren't that sensitive to it and get disappointed because they don't actually know what they're listening for.
I remember a site where there were two versions of the same piece of music. One was compressed and the other not compressed, so you could click on it and hear what to listen out for.
Once you've heard a good dynamic range, you start to easily recognise the characteristics of underpowered equipment. It works, but just doesn't sound the same any longer.
A lot of it depends on your sensitivity too.

Just tried the Project Sunrise directly connected to my DAC 19-DSP And Waooow i must incline myself in front of a such Sound !!! Definitively "Tubey" and powerful ! Now my K340 is drived with authority when volume pot is around to 12h, volume is tremendous, much more powerfull than on my Audio-GD C-2 ! At the start i was suffering from annoying noise, and now i have installed a 10$ filter on my Wallwart PSU and it's silent ! Now i'm ready to began my review in excellent conditions !

Mke's put one together for me as well so I'll have one by the weekend too. The funny thing was, he sent me his to try and I had this really small (unmarked) power supply sent with it. My first thought was that the power supply might not be that good. However, turned it on and started to listen and just couldn't believe where the dynamics were coming from. It sounded enormous and for a little while, Mike didn't let on. Eventually, when I started rambling about sticking a Pinkie on it because I could imagine the dynamics getting much bigger, he told me that it was in fact quite a good supply with it!!! I felt so relieved. Thought I was hearing things. Mike's done some minor changes to mine with extra cooling (to say the least!!) so I'm really looking forward to hearing it. I think I'm in quite a noisy electrical environment here so he's also done some little tricks to lower noise pickup. It looks quite industrial what with a tube isolator, 3 coolers on top of each other and earthing on the volume knob plus other noise lessening devices!! In fact, mine looks a bit like the New York skyline!! Ian
