I moved yesterday and as I couldn't be buggered really moving the cd player box and I wanted to keep the cdp off the bench I positioned it in the bottom layer of layered polystyrene that it came with.
The sound had a real bit of clarity to it!The noisefloor had dropped just that little bit to eke out more dynamics. I'd already put spare dynamat inside the top plate and never noticed much of a difference but this was really distinct.
Money spent-zip.
Another tweak I liked was using fence pailings in soft wood-pinus radiata. Gave the spiked speakers something to sink into and tightened up the Mordaunt Short floorstanders considerably. Another no cost solution.
Can anyone think of more?

If you have a carpeted floor, you will most likely hear an improvement with it sitting on the carpet too. I sit mine on a piece of car sound deadening material from Jaycar.

I think I may try listening to the cdp on the floor. I think surfaces make a big difference though I can't really say why. With a turntable it's far more clear cut, you want to isolate the TT and let the suspension add it's own colour.
At any rate having the cdp sit in one half of the foam stuff was preferable to having sit on top of both. The latter made the sound hard and top edged.
How's Jaycar for audio stuff? Any bargains ? I used to live in Brizvegas

Jaycar is said by several U.K. RG members to have very good pricing on their kits.
