Mike - Couldn't the different caps in version2 make a noticeable difference? I see that you havent fitted the caps and resistors in the power line this time either? I suppose that shouldnt make much difference though from a technical point of view, but i surely i wouldnt be the one to confirm or dissmiss it.. The new output resistors looks efficient !
All in all it looks like a superb job!!

Koolind Surprisingly, this can make a differnce, but not always for the better. What works for one piece of equipment doesn't always work for another.Even a 470pf capacitor across the outers of the secondary winding of the 15-0-15 30VA transformer seemed to lift a veil with the SC HA, but when I did the same with the exact same PSU PCB for the X-DAC V3, the soundstage didn't sound right .It sounded too diffused. I can't explain why. Personally, I would only fit the varistor, but not if the power board feeding it already used varistors. I suspect that although Varistors are mainly used for clamping higher than normal mains spikes, that their capacitance may also help by bypassing lower level HF garbage. Alex

ARG, the bloody danish postal service caught my package and sent it to customs and will now not only delay the delivery but also add a nearly 20£ fee for handling the package and 15£ tax.. Its really just robbing people to demand a 20£ fee for customs-handling.. Just a new place to earn money when there isnt any competition!

It looks perfectly clean to me now, Mike. Now it's all bolted down, doesn't it look neat in there? Any difference with change of wire/plugs? I cant wait now!!!

It looks perfectly clean to me now, Mike. Now it's all bolted down, doesn't it look neat in there? Any difference with change of wire/plugs? I cant wait now!!! Yeh but I'd like to give it a quick once over with some isopropyl just to remove fingerprints and smudges... cleanliness is next to godliness when it comes to equipment IMO.... I don't want you receiving it with fag ash floating about inside Sounds fantastic Ian, I am getting really anal about the DC offset though.... it will drift slightly with temperature (which is why I asked you what temp. your room usually runs at).... it will also drift slightly with the lid in place so my job, this evening, is to get it down to 0.00mV with my ambient room temp. @ 20C and with the amp warmed up for 1 hour (normal listening conditions). This is why I want to run it constantly over the weekend.... allow the components adequate time to burn in and, more importantly, "stabilize"...... I've got hourly fluctuations of between 2.0mV and -3.0mV at the moment but it never goes beyond 5mV, I'm quite happy with that and expect those fluctuations to lessen as the parts stabilize into their optimum working state. I would recommend a re-calibration after the 1st months usage (it's simple to do) and I will guide you through that at the time. What I am doing now is putting the amp through it's paces at the ambient temperature it will subjected to and setting the DC offset within these operating conditions. There is no point trimming the offset in a freezing cold workshop and then expecting it to measure the same in a room with an ambient temp. of (let's say) 25C..... thermal drift plays a big part in the measurement process which is why it is paramount to calibrate the unit in the environment / conditions it will be used in. That doesn't mean your room "has" to be a constant 20C when you're listening to it.... it just means that you can be pretty certain the offset is close to zero under those conditions You shouldn't ever exceed 20mV (unless you put the Panda in an oven) so no problems at all. I am being pedantic here and "constant zero" offset is pretty much a myth but I'm doing my best to trim it to your ambient operating temperature Mike.

BTW... I had less than 1mm to play with when fitting those pro grade sockets... the points of the nuts are almost touching!...... you couldn't get a fag paper between them I went for the "belt and braces" two nut approach but will probably ship with only one nut per channel

I've fitted the air conditioning and put plastic sheets over the door entrances. The windows are going to be replaced with triple glazing and I've put a dehumidifier in. Now I'm cracking open a bottle!!! Seriously, it looks absolutely amazing.

VERY NICE MIKE !!! Perhaps you should keep both and use them as dual monoblocks ? Alex, do you have a spare enclosure over there? If so I will build Panda three for you..... if not I will still build Panda three for you and stick it in an enclosure.... You have to hear this Alex Mike. Mike, If your thinking of passing No.3 around, I'd love to have a listen. It would be racking up against my AK SCHA and MFV2/pinkie before being passed on to its next destination. Chris PS I know that my hearing and what I look for in music presentation is a little different to yours...

Room interaction is another thing.... for zero insertion loss I recommend you listen in the nude apart from sporting a pair of sheer nylon dress socks

Chris I "could" do that Chris but it would be very expensive in postage costs..... you're probably cheaper BUYING a £38 GBP Panda kit.... he has a few left HERE No point me shipping a weighty (finished) amp around the globe when you can buy a kit for less than £40. Mike.

Exactly ! The toroidal transformer alone, will weigh well over .6KG. As for a decent case, the cost of shipping one to Australia e.g. , due to the weight, tends to make them too expensive to seriously consider, no matter how good they look. Some of those beautiful knobs are surprisingly heavy too.

Guys, all this talk of nakedness and heavy knobs is digasshting. I'd like to officially complain about the tone and content of these forums. I came here expecting knowledge to be imparted concerning esoteric hi five and all I get is dirty old men talking about the above mentioned.
Can anyone tell me for the last time, how do I get rid of that harshness from the V5?
One last question, where do I stick the plug on the Panda and does he mind?
Chris, you seem to be an upstanding member. Perhaps you'd like to fly over to UK and hear said beastie. You just can't trust anyone who uses effeminate names like 'Pink'. Hey, yoooo ladyddy. Yes, YOOOOO laddy!!!!
