By the way... the "SOLO" reference has nothing to do with the Slee Solo..... I mean, just look at what you get for your money

Under 40 quid !! If those parts are genuine its worth it for those alone Keep us updated I need another headphone amp like a hole in the head but, as you say.... worth it for the parts alone so too good to pass up on..... that's my excuse anyway I will have a good listen to the barebones amp and if it warrants it only then will I buy an enclosure and all the trimmings... will probably build this up on a board which allows much chopping and changing before settling on the final build.

Got an e-mail saying the head-amp kit has been shipped so, hopefully, it will be here next week sometime... as Leo says, the parts alone are worth the asking price..... looking forward to this one

Its how I mainly do things , build it up on say a wood chopping board and listen to it as is, live with it for a few days and take it from there. I'll mod if I feel the need, if it has potential it gets a case, if not I don't bother Its a shame theres no schematics for it, anyway look forward to seeing how you get on

Here you are Leo: www.mediafire.com/file/coj09gxd57q3cyb/HP amp schematic.pdf The first thing I would do is try what happens when you loose the 2.2 resistors in the PS lines. Looks like a rather well designed amp with FET's in the input stage.

I could say the same about 'phones and amps... Rabbit asked me recently if I would buy AUNE amp (just after I've bought the PreSonus HP4)... Maybe we are not that different from those women which possess 1000 pairs of shoes...

Here is the PDF the seller sent me... is it the same as the one you posted Frans?

It does look pretty well designed and, for the money, could prove something of a bargain considering ALL the parts are supplied with the kit! Jeez, the ALPS pot alone is worth a tenner!

On a chopping board it's easy to chop and change (excuse the pun) and doesn't involve disassembling from an enclosure every time you want to try different parts. Only when I'm 100% sure of the amp, having lived with it for a while and got to know it, will I consider fitting it into a nice enclosure and welding down the lid.... I've got quite a few amps here on chopping boards that never made it into an enclosure (mostly small scale "portable" types) a couple of Mints, a blue Jelly, a couple of Gmoys (Guzzler) and a Chiarra that is so dogeared I'm surprised it works.... it has evolved into more of a point to point job

Yep Mike.. it's the same schematic. Good value indeed ! All it needs is a nice housing, a good toroid (or another PS) and an extender-rod + knob (or move the ALPS to the front with some shielded wiring), switch(es), RCA's and HP socket(s) and don't forget the output resistors as this is a low Z output amp (close to zero Ohms) without any resistors. an ideal moment to make 2 HP output sockets with different output impedances perhaps. 10 Ohms, 68 Ohms or even 120 Ohms. That is.. if it sounds as good as the schematics and PCB look. Looking forward to your findings Mike. the input resistance is completely determined by the ALPS. If it was my amp I would have limited the bandwith at the input of the amp to about 100kHz (-3dB) by adding a resistor and small cap between the inputs and the ALPS. gain = 5x (+14dB)

Just noticed I haven't included pics in this thread...... Here is what you get (board and parts) The populated board: Another angle: And another: £38.88 GBP? INSANE value for money! I've got a gut feeling that this kit amp will prove to be one of the best projects EVER published on this forum Run, don't walk, to your nearest Paypal terminal and lay out £38.88 (plus postage) on one of these kits cause, in 6 months time, this will be THEamp to own..... I will start a seperate build thread as soon as the kit arrives

Yep Mike.. it's the same schematic. Good value indeed ! Not half! This place (Rock Grotto) was started by people who were looking for "good value" (bullshit free) audio gear (Rick, me and a few others).... this is true to our principles and, if it delivers on the sonics, this is one of the best finds yet. I really hope that this sounds as good as it looks "on paper"

I think it will. It even boasts DC protection on it's outputs. Mind you... with a nice box and all the other stuff it won't be very cheap anymore but still have great value. There are only 3 of 5 boards left (that is if they haven't got a bigger stash they will sell later) don't forget the output resistors that are not on the board. Running it without those added resistors might not be the best thing for a lot of cans.

I think it will. It even boasts DC protection on it's outputs. People here better hurry as I believe it is not a current production thing that will remain for many years. I believe they purchased the boards from a (probably) bankrupt manufacturer. It's just a hunch, not based on facts b.t.w. It's a 2008 design from 'Protel'. Mind you... with a nice box and all the other stuff it won't be very cheap anymore but still have great value. There are only 3 of 5 boards left (that is if they haven't got a bigger stash they will sell later) don't forget the output resistors that are not on the board. Running it without those added resistors might not be the best thing for a lot of cans. Frans..... isn't "Protel" the PCB design software?

I doubt the instructions will be up to much (well, not fully understandable in English) so may take a bit of figuring out.... all part of the fun though

Yes.. automatically translated so it seems.
they are mentioning to match the input FET's. might be a good idea to buy some input FET's and match them. connect the gate and source and measure the drain current (using 9 or 12V power supply) as shown in the webpage. match the FET's and use these matched pairs.
Alex LOVES to match the input stages !

Speaking about batteries would a motecycle/car battery be up to the task ?? A toroidal transformer may be a better bet ..... leave it with me mate, I'll do a blow by blow(easy to follow) build guide.... don't worry Mike.
