You've made a nice job of that Pete Maybe leave it on overnight, remember the caps have to form and those valves have never seen any action so allow a good few hours for everything to come on song. All the best, Mike.

Well done Pete, welcome to the club, and remember - this is only the start of the madness!! You'll find Mike is a great guy to deal with Couldn't help noticing on your great pics, your quad socket could do with a clean. Good, clean contacts help to produce a good , clean sound. You could use fancy stuff, but isopropyl alcohol applied with a q-tip is inexpensive and effective, which is kind of what Rockgrotto is about. This is a snake-oil free zone

Thanks Mike. When I saw the amount of caps, diodes etc I got a bit nervous about doing it and thought "oh well if I f**k it up I will just post it off to you and hopefully you could sort it out". But it went really well, I used the supplied solder and it melted a lot faster than the silver solder I have used before. (Won't be using that again). The mug is just a "Dunelm mill" cheapy 59p I have them in the green , maroon and black. Will leave it on all night. I usually leave the X10D and Dacmagic Azur on 24/7 anyway. Do you think this is wise? I do use a bigger power supply than standard on them both, but nothing special. Thanks again for your great service and great upgrade kit. Pete.

Looks like you like your tea strong too Pete I like mine to resemble tar and usually leave the tea bag (punjana) in for a few minutes and squeeze the hell out of it with teaspoon and finger.... you can't beat a good, strong cup of tea. No problems leaving it on all the time but I don't see the point of it myself, just wasting electricity, it certainly won't do any harm. Remind me of your details Pete and I'll send you a new quad phono socket to solder in Mike.

If you are sending me the sockets FOC then only fair I do a "Rockgrotto" support donation. I have really gotten into Tea lately, usually buy decent quality Assam tea bags but recently found a great website selling top quality loose and tea bag tea called "Allabouttea" they do some lovely tea's, worth a look. www.allabouttea.co.uk/Cheers Pete.

Great job, Pete!
You are still several steps ahead of me. I'm planning to buy the needed tools this year and learn at least basic soldering.
Currently, I'm reading a few books about soldering.
Probably still a long way to learn everything.
I have also a X10-D and like it.

I think I will have to see what is available for a beginner, maybe a Pre-amp or something. I was allways very keen on the Velleman kits, they used to do a very nice looking 2 valve pre-amp kit but I never had the confidence to get one. They don't seem to do them anymore. Pete.
