I have a terrabyte of Apple Lossless files in itunes. I want to keep these in itunes but want to also copy some of them into WAV format.....
So, here is what I mean..... go into the itunes folder.... selct the folder I want to convert..... "copy" it and paste it in another location.
OK..... now I have one folder copied and it is full of Apple lossless files.... how do I convert these over into WAV?
Is there a free program that does this?
Mike.

I want a standalone "convertor" that will look at the file and say "that is apple lossless, I am going to change it to WAV"...... you'd think it would be quite simple?

Thanks Alex, I've downloaded it and will give it a go.... just saves me copying my CD's again.... I am going to be reviewing the Mini APE when Leo sends it back and want to get a few of my reference files in WAV and FLAC as the APE doesn't play Apple Lossless files. I will be copying them onto memory stick, SD card (class 4) and a USB hard drive so I can give the Mini APE a really good road test. For a change I will be comparing it to the same albums played on my CD player and through loudspeakers NOT headphones.... I think loudspeakers are the best bet when we are talking about height, depth, width, soundstage, imaging, placement etc. I'll also be looking for "emotion" and "musicality" and will get a couple of people over so we can ALL have a listen and compare Almost got the music room finished, nothing elaborate (equipment wise) just a nice place to relax with neon lights and a cornucopia of other funky lighting gadgets It's actually pretty damned good sitting listen to music with all the colours of the rainbow around you..... "mood lighting".... I bought these great LED lights which change colour, you use them in place of a standard GU10... also got quite a few of those fibre optic jobs.... altogether it's quite an event just sitting there watching the colours change

Mike, I recommend foobar2k for all your conversion needs... Available here: www.foobar2000.org/downloadThen grab the ALAC (Apple Lossless) plugin from here: www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_input_alacInstall the plugin as per: wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=Foobar2000:How_to_install_a_componentThen just drag the whole folder you want to convert, into foobar, select all (Ctrl+A), R-click on one of them, Convert, .... Then set your output format to WAV. If you're happy with the location of the apple lossless files (ie the existing folder structure), I'd set the Output path to 'Source track folder' Choose your naming convention, and hit OK. Once the process is done, just do a search within the copied folder for any .m4a files, and delete them. Then you'll have wav files in the same folders as the m4a's. Just make absolutely certain you're only searching the copied folder - so that you only delete the copied m4a's. Let me know how you get on

Mike, As well as from Phils suggestion there is also "NCH Switch". main siteI have been using the free version of this for all my early experimentation and it's a doddle to use. I can't say how it racks up against Foobar on SQ but it is nearly foolproof. Chris
