You shouldn't post these things, you know. Because... It's upsetting. One is inclined to 'believe', yet shivers at the thought of a complete ripped and downloaded FLAC collection. It conflicts with settled engineering knowledge. On the other hand, an open-minded non-believer might want to try, upgrade and try again, tweak and try again. Wouldn't all the above cause a lot of stress and in the end, that stress might counteract any sonic improvements that might exist *Must leave this forum, permanently*

And many still prefer a turntable!

Who gives a rats ass what people who think that they can hear the grass grow say. If the music is involving, I can listen to 128kb MP3s. If the music is shit, there is no format that works for me.
My heretical thought for the day: our listening habits determine what works better for us. The playback algorithms are just the difference between blonde, brunette or redhead. Moving speakers only a couple of centimeters makes a bigger difference.

"when both are sent through email..." That just made my day. I think the remainder of the impressions and discussions of these technically challenged people can safely be ignored.

I hope that you aren't saying that differences between the SQ of played back .flac files and the decoded .wav files can't be heard ? MANY RG members have participated in tests of my dozens of uploaded comparison .wav files, and will tell you that these differences exist. Even with .wav files having identical check sums !!! Frans is one of the few of the more prominent posters here who having heard some,is still an unbeliever. However, Frans's views on subjective reports are very well known in RG. Alex

Perhaps with the type of speakers that you listen to it does ? Yup, the kind that I listen to. Unfortunately the kind you do too - unless you live in an anechoic chamber. A fine place to go mad. I was trapped in one over a weekend many years ago. After about 6 hours I could hear my blood rushing through the veins. What a terrifying noise floor! It took a week to get used to normal ambient sound again. Resonance can be our friends!

An even more terrifying noise floor is the sound of blood settling in your veins, and the panic when you realise that is VERY wrong, and you hit the "reset" button in you brain ! It only happened to me once (that I am aware of) some years ago, I think it may have been some episode like the people with sleep apnoea go through without realising it ? Alex

Alex The apnoists actually are addicted to that state. I have an air pump to solve my nightly apnoes. Never had the desire to hook it up to my turntable though...........
