Finally found a CD player that gives as much detail, presence, and shear musicality as my Koestu rosewood signiture, Zeta, Linn, vinyl set up.
Easily the best cd player for the money i have heard to date, and at a reasonable price compared to some i have heard in the past.
If you are looking for a cd player, i would thoroughly recommend putting this remarkable cd player, at the top of your audition list, even the remote is the best engineered i have ever seen.
So, i know this will please you Alex, after our debates on the issue of vinyl verses digital in the past. ;D

Ahh.. but all CD players are crap and sound sterile, lifeless ... only cheap computer drives and PC's are capable of producing good sound is what I read somewhere. I am happy for you though. Technically the processing in CD players is far superior to what a PC can do due to specialised circuitery and the absence of bloody awfull PC powersupplies messing up everything. (NOW I have ruined THIS thread too as Alex and the 'bit brigade' is going to eat us BOTH for lunch and breakfast).

As "Eastern Europe Bit Army General" I admit that some CD transports better even the best currently available computer based transports/interfaces. There. All happy? That said, I predict that this will change in next 4-5 years in favour of "non mechanically rotating" transports.... and "all your base will belong to us".

Rocksan makes some really good stuff. Their amps are really nice too.
My gawd, you're splashing out this Christmas Mick.

I've always had a soft spot for Roksan gear, it's always a little different, and well thought out. Sounds like you are building a top notch system there, and I'm glad you're enjoying it!

(NOW I have ruined THIS thread too as Alex and the 'bit brigade' is going to eat us BOTH for lunch and breakfast). That is great, coming from someone who firmly believes that all burned CDs of the same material must sound identical, irrespective of the writer and type of media used , whether a no name brand or a Gold Archival type, that all CD players when used as transports for a DAC, irrespective of price, must sound the same due to the inbuilt error correction, (irrespective of type of PSU used) Not even Valter agrees with you there ! That a BluSpec CD MUST sound identical to the same material burned using standard CD manufacturing , and believes that Sony, the co-developers of the CD format are lying about the advantages they claim. I could post much, much more, but Frans has already done a pretty good job of destroying this thread , when there was no valid reason to do so. Frans also believes that the MANY members here and elsewhere who claim to hear these improvements are delusional ! Just the same as he does about members who report improvements when replacing headphone cables and various other components. Despite all the scorn heaped on such people by closed minded engineering types, there are still a few brave people who will post their findings, irrespective of all the scorn and sarcasm directed at them by these closed minded zealots. Attached is a recent remark (yesterday) in DIYAudio, from a member involved in a thread that I had no involvement in at the time of posting. Alex “wav files sound better than .flac on the WD mini. USB stick sounds better than using a spinning HDD -erin” I suggest that this thread be kept to the subject started by the OP. I will refrain from responding to further provocation in this thread. Alex

I wish you many hours of happy listening . I don't however wish on you the many hours of futile searching for CDs that haven't beeen ruined by stupid engineers who think that everybody listens to music in a noisy underground railway system ! Nice one Mick. I've only experience of the original Caspian and the M(1). Both were very competitive in their day and a pleasure to use.
I imagine the M2 to be a logical progression. Enjoy it.
Alex, I hear what you are saying, quite depressing when you spend out on kit to get good SQ. Lets hope the HQ recordings become much more widespread and soon, whether they be DLs or hard copy media.

Mick enjoy your CD player knowingly you get the most out of your CD's. Afterall there is only a PCM signal on it which is decoded briliantly, resampled into 24 bits depth for you by the DSP and digital upsampling filter and subsequently filtered with a good end stage with good power supplies (separated for analogue and digital) and enjoy it NEXT to the vinyl you love with the Grado you love, a bottle of wine.
Enjoy your CD's, I know I do without harsness or lack of 'soul' the bit brigade going... didn't I (Sorry for that Alex, couldn't resist) a 'funny remark' would have preserved the happy character Mick intended for this thread.
and I stand corrected.. there is much more info on a CD then what's recorded in the stereo PCM signal what any CD player could ever reproduce. I am just a closed minded, non believing EE with daft convictions and no eye nor ears for true hifi.

Yay, repent oh ye of little faith. Surely the information is on the disc Frans, but perhaps the processing introduces artifacts of some kind along the way in cheap CD players? My Audio Cambridge doesn't sound like the Naim on the same disc. Same numbers. Same disc. Cheers, Mr Delusionable UK. (Yes, I know you think I'm nuts!!!) Just pulling your todger ......

Or perhaps the output filter or oversampling filter is different or is taylored ? I bet you quite some money that the info retreived from the disc entering the DSP is quite (nahh exactly) the same. It's what happens in the DSP, DAC and analog output stage and PS is what's different and changes the sound. This will be quite OK with Mick's Rocksan. The filtering and end stage of cheap CD players leaves MUCH to be desired. Easily verified by measuring equipment and ears b.t.w. Even appearant to my dodgy ears too. Ceratinly the audio processing in most DVD players is extremely bad as are most DAC's. Most people ONLY care about the price and a wide stereo image. Manufacturers and sellers care for profit margins... what has this world come to So no ... not delusional nor nuts and... what's a todger ? do I have one? does it hurt pulling it? Is it honorable?

Hi Mick, dunna worry about it mate, just enjoy your music on your system Frans, Yes, you have a todger. Does it hurt if it's pulled? Don't know, it's completely subjective, and depends on your pleasure/pain threshold ;D

;D ;D Well let's put it this way, if you went near my todger, I might not be too pleased but it may be different for someone else, preferably female!! It's a kind of 'saying' Frans. Todgers are dodgy!! BTW - Mick is sending your switcher device over to me soon. Do I pass it on to someone else after a week or so?

yet another usefull word added to my English vocabulary....
Ian, do your output resistance tests with it (what Mick used it for) and keep it till you don't need it anymore or someone else wants to use it.
See if you like a box with switches for this purpose.
Claus wants it for his next canjam which is not known when yet.
