hello hello
first of all im really new to the whole 'hifi' sound. but not long ago i started getting a decent kit for my headphones. first bought the heed canamp then a v-dac. now i've had it for a couple days now and i read yesterday somewhere that usb (which i am using) does support only up to 16bit/44.1khz. so am i basiclly underpowering my v-dac by miles with usb? if so i would get a soundcard with coax but do i have to get one that goes up to the 192khz mark to get the full power of my v-dac or am i able to go for 24bit/96khz since i would like to keep the cost down as much with out making the sound quality suffer. and since i already have a dac i dont want anything fancy
sorry on my spelling/grammar for my english is not my native tongue
kind regards

Maxibender,
When using USB, the one thing that you need to think about is what resolution the music files are?
If the music files you play are ripped from a CD, or of similar quality then the standard USB connection to your Vdac is perfect, and you will not be missing out in terms of quality or performance. CD is 16bit, 44.1kHz so you lose nothing.
If you have downloaded higher resolution files (24/96, 24/176, 24/196 etc) then you will need to use a soundcard with co-axial output or something like the musiland or hiface USB devices (which use 'special' usb chips and driver), which will support these higher sampling frequencies. Depending on the higher resolution files you use will indicate the resolutions supported by the soundcard /usb you need to buy.
Hope this helps.

Hi Been out of the hi-fi game for awhile now [long story],is it possible to add a piece of equipment to a pre-amp power amp set up to use a usb stick?the reason i ask is a friend has a car that uses a usb stick to play music & the sound is quite astonishing.i would like to down size all the hifi i have but haven't a clue were to start.i have a fairly good set up now but really too big for the room were in. quad 909 amp musical fidelity x-pre v3 musical fidelity x-10v3 buffer connected to a pinkie quad cdp player b&w cdm 1nt b&w cdm cnt mj acoustics pro 50 subwoofer pair of monitor audio di-polar/bi-polar rear speakers pioneer vsx-ax5i 7.1 surround sound amp & matching dvd sacd player. soooooooooooo the big question is....is there anyone using a smaller set up with fantastic results using a usb stick instead of a cd player? if so through what type of equipment? would probably still keep the a/v amp & dvd but would really like to downsize the rest....any suggestions welcome...thanks Colin
