I just powered up my new vintage DPA dac. It's so nice to be able to use the music on my computer again  It looks a bit like a polished plastic case on the photo, but it's actually thick polished metal.  (The Pinke PSU for the xcan is right there behind everything) |

DPA, great stuff, I used to sell this gear as well. All their DACS were extremely competitive at the time, I'm told they still hold there own against newcomers. The amps were down to taste, quite a polarised response to them. I paid a lot less for my Renaissance, fortunately, since it's not as high end (according to the brouchures, I haven't heard the higher end gear so I know nothing about actual differences.).
( a little cracker? what does that mean...?)

The Renaissance DAC sure sounds good and since I don't have any high end or even new low end DAC to compare with and get my illusions shattered - I can just sit back and enjoy the music :-)
If it had been expensive, then I might have worried about what else could have performed better... but this time it was cheaper than the cheapest of the low end competition I've been considering. It destroys the built-in DAC in the mac book pro, but that was certainly no big and hard achievement.
(So if you are looking at one right now, then don't take my word for it... good for the price doesn't mean it would have been so good for some other price....and I have absolutely no idea how it compares to other stuff at the moment)
