Hi everyone. New here. I have had a few MF X series units namely X-LP phono stage, X-Cans V2 and still have an X-10D which I have had for a long time. ( may be going for the upgrades soon). Back to the point, Currently bidding on an X-Pre on ebay and was wondering if there are any tweeks or upgrades available for these? Can't see any mention of the Pre on the forum. Great looking forum, Pink Floyd has allways been tops for me ever since I had an 8 track player in my Mini Cooper (The real one's not the nancy BMW one's) with Darkside of the moon on continious playback. Cheers Pete.

BTW: My brother-in-law is a real Mini Cooper fan and is member of a Mini Cooper club here in Switzerland (see link below). The whole club came with dozens of Mini Cooper's to their marriage. I've never seen so much Mini Cooper's... They all think the same about the BMW fakes... www.miniweb.ch/mcl/index.html

Thanks for the welcome elysion. I bet that was a great spectacle, all those Mini's. My first and favorite was a Morris Cooper 997, green with white roof.

Well didn't win the X-Pre on ebay I was after but still on the lookout. What do people here think of them? Any good ? or is there better for the money? Currently using an NVA passive with my Transcription audio 211 s.e.t power amp but since changing from home brew open baffle speakers (very efficient) to Quad esl57s could do with a bit more gain as I am on full whack and could do with more. Plenty of power for my Stax new sr3 though using the srd-6 energiser.

Sorry guys, I don't own a turntable / vinyl so wouldn't know one end of an X-PRE from another. I other words, I won't touch anything I don't have any experience of.
All the best.
Mike.

Hi Pinkfloyd The X-Pre is not a phono pre amp it is a line pre to run CD,Tuner etc. The X-LP is the one for turntables. The avatar is my dog "Billy" the English Bull terrier he is 12 1/2 years old now. I took that picture of him when he was asleep, looked really weird as his eye's were sort of semi open and rolling around like some sort of mutant.

Ooops sorry Derek r no insult intended Just having a bit of fun. Just finished respraying a friends Moggy traveller in the electric blue / white roof colours of the new Mini's. Looks really good though a bit too modern for a Moggy. No insult taken my friend. I know that Mini owners love to broadcast their 'dislike' of the new BMW MINI. It's a bit like the attitude Quad lovers have towards the newer, post-Peter Walker Chinese stuff. It's all in good fun though. I obviously enjoy the BMW MINI and it's very obviously not at all like the old BMC / British Leyland car of years back. That original Mini was a real charmer and it's so good to see so many drivers of that car with a strong desire to maintain and support it. I have only driven a Mini for just one day - and I loved every single minute of the 70 miles or so I drove. But.... if the real Mini was still around and made by British Leyland, and you could also choose a BMW MINI.... I think I'd have more confidence in the BMW car. Fun and games aside... the BMW MINI is great marketing... a successful car with good residual value. They assessed the demand, designed the product and enjoyed the profits. Nothing wrong with that. It's what business is about. Derek

I think I'd also prefer the BMW Mini Derek.... breaking down in the middle of nowhere on a foggy morning is no fun in any car but breaking down in a "British Leyland" corned beef can on wheels is a bit too "retro" for my liking Give me the modern, reliable engine any day.

They say though that its topology is very similar to the MF X-10D. If that is the case, then we are talking here about two stage amp design with very strong negative feedback. Having in mind the HiFi units that you possess, I would skip this MF X-Pre ... I do not believe that it will provide that level of transparency that you get from NVA, although it will add some gain. But overall sound quality .... I do not believe you will be satisfied with it ...

Our two sons, their families and their cars came for a long weekend recently........ It was brilliant.
