What a lovely "card" this is! I've got it hooked up for front panel "headphone" duty and have NO complaints with it driving low or high Z 'phones. The Dolby settings are excellent and really do "expand" the soundstage.... Maybe not "technically" perfect but, boy, it sure is musically engaging..... what a wonderful device

Have you got her wired up for front panel (headphone) output or are you running a pair of speakers from the output?

After reading a 21 page full report on both cards ( techreport.com/articles.x/14500/1 ) I went for the cheaper DX. I will only be using the front panel (head out) of the computer "casually"..... the occasional youtube video, random audio CD etc. so the DX is MORE than adequate for me. They sure are nice devices though.... Rick was right, computer audio CANNOT be ignored.... it's already evident that it can provide better quality playback than traditional methods.... it can only go from strength to strength..... When CD's first came out I went full on into the technology and sold all my LP's.... I was never quite comfortable with that always yearning for that "vinyl" warmth.... we are now in the digital age and, I must confess, I have never heard such clean recordings (uncompressed / full resolution examples).... Definitely the way to go.

Mike I have the D2X, as well as the cheaper model (DS) with the I.C. socket fitted. I got the more expensive model mainly for the higher performance via SPDIF into a DAC. When the D2X started cutting out occasionaly due to what appeared to be relay chatter months months later, I got the cheaper model. It turned out that the particular PSU feed I had used was high resistance ! Although I did originally use the Jaycar HA directly from the D2X card for a while, and the results were quite good, the results via SPDIF into a good DAC are markedly better. Alex
