Hi guys
I want to use my laptop for movies and maybe internet radio with my headphone amp and phones. I only have a headphone out in the laptop.
Am I better off with a USB DAC or a USB Sound Card? What is the difference?
I came across the Behringer UCA202 on Amazon for £27 inc p+p. Is this good value for money? Don't want to spend to much, especially if the differences to be had are minimal..
My headamps are Neco V2 portable with AD8610 opamps and Music Fidelity V Can. My headphones are Sennn HD650 and HD555
Any additional comments/advice welcome!
Thanks in advance
Omar

Hi Omar, sorry for the late response. I was somewhat busy with other threads, testing and of course listening to music. There's no real distinction between "USB DAC" and "USB soundcard". Mostly the terms can be used interchangeably. I guess the Behringer UCA202 you are mentioning could be a good start. It's almost the same device that I describe in the Behringer UCA222 thread. As far as I know the only difference between the UCA202 and the UCA222 is the color of the case and the software bundle. UCA202/UCA222 are dirt cheap and IMO suprisingly good. It's no high-end DAC, you can get something better than this. But if you are comparing prices you will see soon that the price of this USB audio interfaces (my preferred them for such devices) is ridiculous. You could easy afford more than one. I'm currently using the UCA222 with a Mac and have a Neco Mosfet V.2 connected to it. I'm listening mostly with the K702 and I really do like the softness and sweetness this USB audio interface has. Please read the review in the other thread. I'm still searchring for an even better USB/FireWire audio interface, but I'm already pleased with the UCA222. Christian

Hi Christian,
No worries mate. I ordered the UCA222 as for £3 extra, the software may be vital with Windows. For watching films, if it does the trick it'll be worth every penny. It really isn't cheap. The Aune is more pricey, but what is the difference in SQ? Is there much in it?
Regards, Omar

I can't comment about the AUNE Nano USB DAC since I don't own one at the moment.
Maybe I can comment in a few weeks as Mike will send my an AUNE Nanon USB DAC in exchange for a X-Can that I'm trading with him.
Mike has written a good review.
