Sounds as if it's a good bit of kit - I am considering one of the new DacMagics.... I love my X-DACv3 but the inputs are more flexible on the Cambridge DAC plus you get to play with filters and the display tells you what samoling rate the source is. Havent read a good review for the DacMagic though - people tend to say it's really good for the price. B@gg@r the price - how good is it in absolute terms?

Have you considered the 840C player, it can be used as an stand alone DAC.

Hi Derek, For a dac, why not a change from the usual and go for the Sabre 9018 32 bits dac? When I have the time I will buy the kit and build one. The Sabre is the dac flavour of the time now that even Oppo universal Bluray player is using for their 83 model. However, your system must be able to match the warmer sound of the Sabre dac (wrt Sabre 9016) which I had audition in a pow wow about 1.5 years ago as reported here in my thread. Just for an alternative consideration.

Derek Derek Did you check out the info about the new MF DAC ? Alex Yes I did - but the new DacMagic is SOOOO cheap. Plus I don't really NEED a new DAC - it's just that the X-DACv3's switching and socketry is limited. I have no problem with its sound quality though - have never regretted the purchase at all.
