Hi
I have accepted that the AKG are making some problems for me. Which headphone is best match for the X-Can V2? An overall headphone for movies and music...
Denon 2000?
The question is - which is the most musical and enjoying headphone out there, which would mate nicely with X-can V2?

Hi Krisno, most likely, I'm not the ideal person to answer your question definitely. This because I have not heard dozens of good headphones and can't compare many headphones (in my case only a few). And then it is probably also a question about what music you like the most. I have a X-CAN V2 and usually I'm using it with my Sennheiser HD650. I'm very satisfied with this combination, but I guess you already know there are also more than one user here who doesn't like the HD650. At least I can say the HD650 (and the HD600/580) work very well with the V2. I also own a V1 and V3 but had not the time to test them in detail. I bought all three used and I'm convinced all sound very good with the Sennheiser HD650/600/580 (being the V2 my favorite). Oh, and for you Mike the best of them all is of course a GRADO! Not just a Grado "spammer" but a "tone deaf" Grado spammer to boot I concur with your 650 / 600 observations. The 650, to my ears, exhibits way too much bass bloat to be considered a "neutral" reference 'phone but they're jack of all trades for the masses never offending and mostly pleasing / compatible with all listening formats / amps. Not my personal cup of tea otherwise I'd have a pair strapped onto my head as I type but good 'phones for the GP handling all source formats with equal chocolaty, pleasing, like an old glove regularity....... HD-600 are still my reference 'phones. I absolutely agree with PinkFloyd about the HD650 being a jack of all trades for most amps and most music. I only own the HD650 and the HD580. Maybe you should consider also the HD600. The HD650 is very musical to my ears in combination with the V2 although it is not really neutral/linear. Surprisingly I'm going almost the opposite way of you (I remember to have read a post of you about AKG701's with X-CAN V3): I ordered an AKG702 last friday and hope to have them in my hands next weekend. I know the AKG701/702's are rather hard to drive and have very long burn-in time. My main reason to buy them was to broaden my horizon regarding headphones. I really like to hear more headphones. I hope to get a couple of other headphones in the future. Not only the Sennheiser HD650/580 and the MB Quart QuartPhone 200 I already possess. The AKG702's are my first step into "terra incognita". Christian

Interesting to read that Keith Howard thinks the same - here is an excerpt from his Hi-Fi news "Make the Grado" review in the April 2008 edition: " I am beginning to think the unthinkable: that there may be no such thing as the universal headphone. That to enjoy the best of headphone reproduction there is no choice but to have at least two sets of headphones on hand with different tonal balances - heaven help us, maybe even three, such an idea would be ludicrous with loudspeakers because of the logistics involved but with headphones it is at least feasible." He later goes on to add: " Do I really think we need a harem of headphones awaiting our various pleasures? Of course not. What we need is a single pair of headphones with just the right frequency response. Trouble is, for well known psychoacoustic reasons, we each need a different frequency response, and until somebody comes out with an effective headphone EQ system we are left to choose between models which depart from our personal ideal in diverse ways". Thank god someone else agrees Maybe the conclusions above are also part of the truth...

HD-681 (Superlux) or HD-600. If you can get them, the HD250ll linears are a superb match.

But one other thing...... The russian 6922 tubes are OK. They have good bass... but the mids on the Jan Phillips are just pure magic... really pure magic. The russians dont replicate this and I miss it somewhat. Is there any tubes with the bass of the russians but the lovly midrange of the jan Philips 6922 ........... the jan philips is the most misunderstood tube in headfi world. It seems people comments on things they dont know anything about. Atleast they are very underrated...

I will wait then - sennheiser should release a HD 650 upgrade some day. I dont peticurlarly like the hd 650 - it seems dark and very colored. but i am sure - it is non-fatiguing. AKGs are not musical headphones.... except on some jazz.
X-can v3 stock, on cheap dvd player - playing miles davis blue - it is the BEST and most intense experiecne with my AKG K 701s. Never replicated it , much because the dvd player is gone and computer audio is never as good as standalone CDP.
It would be interesting to try out my supermodded V2 on that dvdplayer.. but well...
