BTW looks like that Earmax thingy uses an extra pair of valves instead of the mosfets used on this little

A lot of those that bought the Bada PH12 complained about heat and quite rightly so - so stupid to use such a small cramped chassis and a pathetic little fan.
Removing the crap fan and the baseplate and putting it on an open topped slate box and using Papst fans undrneath soughted that. So much so that the Bada's alu top plate to which the mosfets are screwed never gets warm.
Just a thought why not try using computer heatsinks - there are many that could be utilized, like those for graphic cards and they are'nt a rip-off like those for audio - you might find the little Bravo looks even better.

Funny you should mention computer heat sinks. I build & maintain PC's been looking through a heap of heat-sinks in the workshop that I thought might be suitable for adaptation or bastardizing to coin a phrase (Mike) There's a Nice big copper Hedgehog should chop up well to use as a heat-sink done a bit of butchering in the past with heat-sinks to make Media center PC's silent. Hate bloody fan noise Passive is the way if possible

Properly ripped Audio, and also it's playback sounds better too, especially if you quieten the SMPS, or use a linear supply without any fans. Noise and vibration from the fans affects the quality of the ripped audio, not just the annoying external noise. SandyK

Andy Andy The LM78xx is specified as -40°C to +125°C. For long reliable service it is best to make sure that you can keep your finger on them for at least a couple of seconds. If you have to remove your finger almost straight away it would be a good idea to fit a heatsink, or use a larger heatsink. Alex

Thanks Alex,
So then i would say that for the damp english climate that the heatsinks on them are about right as i can keep my finger on them for a couple of seconds.

The heatsinks on both the "Bravo" and "Indeed" amps look MORE than up to the job.... I wouldn't worry about it (and am NOT worrying about it) the components are designed to withstand / operate at roasting hot temperatures... perfectly good...... the heatsinks fitted appear to be more than adequate IMO.

Guys, just wait until you get the things, simply keep an eye on it, if its not too hot don't worry about it Also thing to remember, theres lots of ECC88,6DJ8 etc type valves, different manufacturers , their heater current also varies , some higher than others, the higher rated ones will make the LM317's run hotter The stock fitted valve may be an easier load running cooler. for those valve rolling just keep an eye on it, its a simple task

Hi Guys, Don't know whether anyone is interested but I have this morning received an eBay message from the seller of the Bravo amp telling me that the retail price of these is US$69.99. I have asked him to confirm that this is an offer to sell me one at that price plus US$16.00 for postage etc. If this is confirmed is anyone else interested at that price? Let me know if so and I'll try to negotiate a lower price for a higher quantity order to different addresses.

Dave, best check actual model, might be doing you a deal, but i think you might find that the$69.99 version has the 12AU7 Valve fitted, where as the $89.99 has the 6922 Valve fitted, what difference this has on performance, i dont know?

Thanks Mike, Having looked again at our exchange of messages I think that you may well be right - I'll bear that in mind. Meanwhile can any of our readers offer any opinion on what the differences might be? My interest is motivated by a wish to experience the valve/tube sound as cheaply as possible but I also appreciate that such an idea may be self defeating, letting a cheapo valve amp put me off all valve amps.

Yep.... I got an e-mail too from both "indeed" and "bravo" informing me the amps were on their way.... they have both been made aware of this thread too As to valves, I agree with Leo.... fit one that's a bit too hungry and things may start getting warm.... I'll test over 15 types of E88CC / 6922 in the amps and see which ones suit it best

Can't wait to hear your findings, looks like the next few weeks could be very interesting

Can't wait to hear your findings, looks like the next few weeks could be very interesting No chance of wearing the socket out I'll wire on a nice "worn in" offboard socket and do all my testing through it..... I have over 200 "ex" MF sockets (poached from X-Can V1/V2/V3) and, although not the best sockets in the world, they're not as "grippy" as the ceramic sockets and, thus, you can slap valves in and out like a Yo Yo ;D To be honest, I could probably stretch to over 50 different types if I were to include 6DJ8 / ECC88 but I will just concentrate, initially, on generally available 6922/E88CC types and a few choice picks from my extensive "Russian" armoury Yeh, you're right...... fun times ahead...... it's been AGES since I've evaluated a load of 6922 and this amp makes it SO easy being only one valve AND a valve that is easily accessible..... just a case of plopping it in and having a listen I'm looking forward to this little exercise too!
