Has anybody used an external Xtal Oscillator module with a DIR9001 ? Although the DIR9001 has an external input ability, it is not TTL level tolerant. I have been able to obtain a DIL 24.576MHZ Oscillator for $10. Any suggestions on how to implement this ? I was thinking of the osc module and a 78L05 Voltage regulator on a small PCB. SandyK

I'm not really familiar with DIR9001, I presume you have to disable its own PLL mode if running an external XO The XO may need to be a 3.2v type with a 3.2v reg, is it for that ebay dac? it may be ok with some attenuation on the output if ran from 5v Have to go out in a moment sunday shopping

Leo I was thinking of using one to replace the simple crystal osc in the SC DAC for better stability. It would be a 5V oscillator, and I expect it would need padding back. Alex

I tried this once. The only way to get it to work is for the clock you are adding to the DIR9001 has to also be wired back to and replace the transport's clock. Otherwise there is too much of a mismatch and you get skips.
The other solution is to build a PLL with a VCXO that changes its timings to match the incoming clock, this is complicated and has its own issues.
