Last night, "Silverlight" (Geoff in NYC) from Computer Audiophile
gave me DL links to a couple of tracks to do a listening comparison with.
The tracks and their MD5 checksums were :
310dcf5bc2058cb794f6c1ef37d9c3c7 *Mi_Tierra-_Split_CLEAN_DEMAG_ION.wav
310dcf5bc2058cb794f6c1ef37d9c3c7 *Mi_Tierra-_Split_UNTREAT_SLOW_4X_SPEED.wav
( Checksums generated by ExactFile 1.0.0.15

My report to Geoff was:
Geoff
2nd listen to mi_tierra_ split.
1st version sounds louder and more congested.Reminded me of dbPower amp vs. EAC.
2nd version , I once again started to enjoy it within a few seconds. If I hadn't been laying on top of the bed, my feet would have been tapping along.I didn't relate to the 1st one for some reason.Whether I am right or wrong, there certainly are big differences between those 2 to my ears.
Geoff's reply was :
"Alex - i definitely hear a diff in those two as well. they're labeled accordingly, 4x untreat (=no treatments) and other is labeled with CLEAN,MAG,ION (which stands for cleaning solution, de-magnetized, and treated with neg ions). all else equal, both ripped at 4x with EAC."
A later report from Geoff:
"okay, got a chance to listen to the 2 tracks on the main system tonight (which is now more resolving than my headphone system , and the pre-treated version is better. Difference is loss of HF detail and layering w the treatment. soundstage collapsed and sounds more 2D with the treated version. I find the subtleties of soundstaging much easier to hear on the main system vs headphones. so back they go:) fun to test out though"
Care to explain this Faudrei and Friedrich?
O.K. All stirring aside, you will most likely be wasting your money on "snake oil" products like this ! I am not saying that ALL such products are a waste of time, but perhaps a careful washing with warm soapy water to get rid of greasy finger prints etc. is all that is needed with most CDs that you want to rip to your PC/Mac ?
