Hilarious...
...give me some of that beer.
The commandments for fact lovers:
1. If two CRC numbers of the same file are the same, then the sound must be the same. It´s the law.
2. Two different CD drives will sound the same. It must be, because it´s digital.
3. bit-to-bit-perfect will truly be always the same, the numbers are proof
4. do not believe your ears - believe the numbers
5. If every interface on the PC transmits the same data (supported by the numbers) - the sound is the same
6. Different USB-, FireWire- and etc. cables have to produce the same sound due to their system design
7. Believe in CRC codes given to you from AccurateRip
8. Jitter in computer systems is always erased because of re-clocking of the interfaces
9. High End is just a form of intelligent marketing
10. SACD or DVD-Audio is for bats. CD resolution won´t hurt our ears for we can´t hear beyond 20.000 Hz anyway.
The commandments for non-fact lovers:
1. ...
2. uuuhhh... where was I? Yeah, sure. If I place a stone on my drive it will sound different
3. Never ever believe in numbers
4. My USB-cable from Monster Cable sounds better than others
5. In order to avoid headaches, place crystals on your loudspeakers while the moon is shining and howl
6. Don´t use a red background on your monitor. It makes the sound more aggressive
7. Buy expensive power cables - they will also work for your computer
8. Belief is important - believe only your ears. And High End equipment manufacturers
9. Measurments are distracting so don´t use them
10. Listen only at night. Then the power quality is good and the sound will be better.
There you have it. Two sides of belief. Which one is the most trustworthy?
I think, I´ll stay with the beer for the moment. Then I will pick from both what suits me most ;-)

Chris, I got verbally abused
Chris,
I got verbally abused at another site by suggesting that flac-encoded audio may be a little bit (no pun intended) lossy. I swear I can detect a slight degredatiopn of my flac audio vs. the origional CD played through the same DAC (and transport that encoded the CD to the drive).
I need to do some experiments. So much to learn... so little time...
Randy
Also, on the serious side, immediately above the "Commandments" at the same link, there is an interesting article on the effects of jitter being carried right through the whole process, right from the ripping stage, and how it isn't evident until it is played back by the DAC. Check sums notwithstanding !
