I must admit I though the same as you, Chris, but found sourcing the Prodigy Card a problem. It's listed at £79.99, but out of stock in the shops I looked for.
I'm really looking for a card with 24/192 Spdif out, and think I may have stumbled across something that is cost effective, compared to the £100+ cards. Once it lands and I have a tinker, I'll post the info.
