Does anybody have knowledge of the attached ? It is available in Australia from Altronics. I was thinking of the possibility of fitting a new 3M dampened 500GB HDD into my PC, ripping CDs with the LG BR writer ,and storing them on it. Later on, transferring the HDD to this player for connection via the X-DAC V3 and directly into my main system. I would use a linear 12V 3A PSU instead of the supplied 12V 3A SMPS plugpack. Looks quite interesting, and quite similar to some units on eBay (have a search for multimedia player, using worldwide search)
Clausdk linked to one in the 'hifi computer' thread, which I looked at at the time. The unit makes me think of a squeezbox type unit, but with added video capabilty, in a nice, compact unit. From what I found when looking at them, they tend to comprise of a VLSI chip which does everything in one, with a few other bits and pieces.
I am also guessing that it would have internal regulators that would benefit from your attention.
I reckon that if the price is right, it'd be worth a punt.

Altronics sells it for AU$449. They also mention in their catalogue that it can handle a 500GB HDD.
Unfortunately, I can't justify spending that much at the moment.
I will scan the Altronics catalogue page after breakfast and send you a copy.
