Hi Just fitted panny cap and diode kit, jalco hf socket, alps pot and rubber knob to my v2, sorry i did not have time to take photos. Powered her up and left for 10 mins to warm up, my first impression straight away was the dynamics, sound came out of the phones further than normal, plus there was silences around instruments and the brightness had gone down. Played several cd,s to hear the difference, seems to show recordings for what they are, but thats what im`e after anyway, played the Beatles soundtrack to yellow submarine on yellow vinyl and that sounded neutral and dynamic. I will give her around 3 weeks turned on 24/7 to burn in, and should be in for a sonic treat. I left the input caps out as the highest voltage i was getting was 00.3 mv on my meter on the 200mv scale. Will report back when fully burned in to let you all know. Thanks for the bits mike, cant wait for it to burn in and everything loosens up. regards pjc68

Hi Patrick, Glad it all went well Give her around 100 hours and the sound will get even better. I think I sent you the 470uF output caps? If so, I will send you 1000uF.... these give better bass extension with low impedance 'phones..... don't fit them flush to the board, leave around 5mm of leg showing so the caps don't foul the enclosure, I'll get those in the post shortly. Did you fit the ferrite inductors I sent (In place of the input caps) ? these are better than zero ohm links Mike.

Thanks for the reply mike. Everything went ok, apart from the original pot was a bitch to get out, and the input cap solder pads had lifted so i had to scratch the track to solder the off cuts off the cap legs on to the board . Didnt use the ferite inductors as all my cables are kimber and are very good at rejecting rfi. It would be a bit dodgy trying to put anything in the input cap holes now after the pads lifting, but as for the 1000uf caps i will replace them instead of the 470uf ones. I done a very good job considering thats the first time i have soldered for about 17 years, plus the solder you supplied made the job a whole lot easier, i even replaced a few dodgy looking joints damaged by heat over the years. Them shitty jamicons are in the bin now. . Once again thanks mike for the parts and support, will be ordering another set of 6n23p,s of you in a couple of months , and i can tell things are going to improve a lot better when the caps and everything else settles, (i usually give 500 hours burn in time). regards paddy

Thanks for the reply mike. Everything went ok, apart from the original pot was a bitch to get out Horrible little things aren't they? best way is to snip the excess lead away and then go at it one pad at a time..... hot iron and pump up the solder with a desolder pump...... believe me, it's easy with practice Perfectly good. Even though...... I still recommend you fit the inductors Will get them in the post ASAP You've done a great job, enjoy the music man Sounds about right to me

Thanks Mike I will fit them with the ferrite inductors when they come, will give me an excuse to burn myself with the iron by accident. Have you still got some 6n23p valves left, i think i will order a paiir this weekend. ;D regards pjc68

Mike.

Thanks mike Have you got any 6n23p from the 60`s in boxes, they would be a replacement for the 6n23ps ive got now (for when they eventually pop). What is the lifespan of valves Mike, i leave everything on 24\7\365. regards paddy

Hi mike Thanks for the 2 1000uf caps for my v2, i will pop them in when i get a chance. The panasonic cap kit and other bits have been burning in for 8 days now, and sounds a lot better, after 3 weeks everything will have settled .
