My local audio store has the X-can v8. I'm going to audition it next week and compare it to my modded V3 with pinky (bit unfair but who cares ;D). I wonder if it really is better as certain webpages claim  . Btw. has anyone allready compared these two? |

Before you guys ask, I'm going to take my V3 with me for a direct comparison with my own K701. The store also has the same Denon DCD 1500 AE CD player so it will be like testing it at home.  |

Today was the day.
I packed my V3 and K701 and went to the audio store.
The V8 was allready playing when I got there so there was no need to wait.
I popped in one of my cd's and K701 and took a nice long listen.
Afterwards I switched between the V8 and V3 and played my favourite songs a few times over first on the V8 and then on the V3.
In the end I couldn't really notice any significant difference between the two.
The V8 sounded a little veiled but A pair of russian tubes will probably cure that.
The pinky also did a good job on the V8, it gave clearer sound and better dynamics.
In the end the V8 sounded pretty good but in my case it isn't worth the 500 euro price tag.
If you don't have a V3 or can't get one cheap like I did then go for the V8 and get some of mike's tubes and a pinky you won't regret it.

I forgot to mention that I also did the same test with a senn HD 600 from the store. There was some guy on another forum that kept yapping on about the V8 not being able to drive them well. It sounded exellent and I only turned up the volume a few millimeter and nowhere near 12'o' clock I think my ears would bleed if I did that  . Although I still think that the AKG K701 sounds better but that's my personal taste. The store also had a pair of DT 880's but was a bit disappointed when I heard them. |

Sorry, I didn't. If I wanted to I also had to take my laptop with me. And if we have to believe the other sources on the web. The dac is only meant to get you started right away so you can save money for a better one. |
