Hi,
I've got a V3 into Senheiser HD565 Ovations. Really like the sound but occasionally if I accidentally tap the V3's case there is an echoing sound through the headphones, with some distortion in the sound. Is this normal? It's not there all the time, but is there especially when the V3 is a bit cold.
The wall-mounted PSU that came with the V3 buzzes quite a bit and is quite warm, and I've noticed that if I unplug it and keep listening for a few seconds the distorted echo disappears instantly, while the capacitors in the V3 keep the sound going.
I suspect my PSU is the problem. Any suggestions?

It maybe the tube has developed this problem but doesn't mean it wont keep on working, up to you replacing with quality replacment tubes will like resolve the issue OR not tapping the headphone case will also solve it. Depends ho much it bothers you! As for the PSU I have not experienced this my self but I would expect it to get warm, have a look around here and you'll see other experiences regarding PSU. Mike offers several upgrade kits which might be worth following up! Robert

I can only agree with Robert, since I had the same problem with my V3. Mike's V3 upgrade set together with a pinky and a set tubes will do wonders. If you're lucky only a pair of new tubes will solve the problem but if you want to max out the performance with the most bang for the buck you should get the pinky with the v3 upgrade set.

The V8P is the same. Mine sits on a cupboard with a drawer below it and each time the drawer is opened and closed there is a very brief rising high pitched sound. I did not notice anything with the XCANS which sat in the same place.

In your case Ian, send the amp back to MF... it's brand new ffs! 99.9% of the time this is due to the valves.... MF are obviously still just shoving the valves in straight from the box without first checking them.... oh well

Hi Mike. After what has already happened with MF I would rather stick to plan A and the V8P goes to you for modding. The sound of the amp just keeps getting better the more hours it plays. Did you get my last e-mail?

Ian Hi Ian, I deleted most of my e-mails the other day.... will look in the "deleted" box The amp "will" continue to sound better and better for the first few hundred hours.... all the caps have to form and this takes time "whatever" the non believers think burn in is a fact. Glad you like it mate
