Forget the cosmetics, forget the components, forget the bullshit...... who's SCHA sounds the best? Can anyone think of a good way we can send each other's amps to someone (or some bodies) for a shoot out? Ideally the "panel" would be blindfolded so they couldn't be swayed by "looks" and the winner would be chosen on SQ alone.... Any way we can organise this? If so, I'm more than happy to put my SCHA into the mix.... confident even

I suppose you are going to try moving Sun,Moon and Earth to organise this ? Alex

Mike, you could hold a meet at your place and send airline tickets to 10 participants from around the globe. You will then put us up for a week in you country mansion and feed us. At the end of the week you would have us driven to the airport with a bag of gifts. Yeh...... and your hat blew off!

The only way to settle this argument, is to feed their outputs into a high quality recorder, adjust the recording level, and burn good quality CD-Rs for comparison with the original CDs. Otherwise, we may as well chuck the artists and the recording engineers interpretations out the window and all go back to valve amplifiers !

Alex, the problem there is I think as follows, the source material and the DAC used to provide analog source then of course after careful colouration by our beloved creations we would have to ADC to some bit stream format wav or other common loss less again introducing artifacts. for that to work the source signal would have to be consistent as well as the record method unfortunately some of the nuances would be lost in the conversion as well as other artifacts added that would impede objectivity just a couple of issues Robert

Even the choice of headphones is a problem by itself. The fact that you can plug in 3 different Audio-gd modules and each of them have their own "flavour" , and perhaps suit different types of music, as well as the mood of the listener, gives an indication of the complexity of the proposal. As far as I am concerned, the ideal is for an amplifier and headphone combination, that as closely as possible recreates the original performance, and adds no artificial ingredients to the mix. I still have a Sony DAT recorder, so I am well aware of the limitations of ADCs etc. , and the need for much higher sampling and bit rates as well. Alex P.S. It would be hard enough to get a general consensus from a group of people, as to which brand and vintage of Scotch Whisky tastes best. Might be more fun, though. ;D Then of course, there would be the odd person who didn't even like Scotch Whisky.
