I listen to some very old music too. Blues from as far back as the 1930's and 1940's, but man, "Chirpy,Chirpy Cheep Cheep" ? Great! I also likes blues but Chirpy,Chirpy Cheep Cheep was the no. 1 hit in the UK then. Our Mr Pinkie will know this better as they are a Scottish group. Just to share ........ From Wikipedia: "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" is a song made popular in 1971 by Middle of the Road for whom it was a UK number one chart hit.[1] Lally Stott's[2] version, written by Harold Stott (known professionally as Lally Stott), it was a minor hit in Italy and Australia for the composer, as well as on the Billboard Hot 100, where it charted but failed to achieve significant success as the cover by Mac and Katie Kissoon became more popular. Stott's record company Philips were reluctant to release it overseas so he offered it to Scottish folk-pop group Middle Of The Road who were working in Italy at the time. The song became a large hit on the continent initially but became a hit in the UK as returning holidaymakers searched out a copy. It nearly flopped in the UK as Mac and Katie Kissoon released a version just before them, but aided by the patronage of DJ Tony Blackburn it became a massive hit. It reached #1 in the UK for five weeks in June 1971, the Kissoon version failed to chart in the UK but reached #20 on the Billboard Hot 100. Dismissed by critics as bubblegum at the time, this was also a view initially held by band leader Ken Andrews, We were as disgusted with the thought of recording it as most people were at the thought of buying it. But at the end of the day, we liked it. The song appears as a cover on a 1973 live record by the Korean children's choir the Little Angels. It was later referenced in the Denim song Middle of the Road in 1992, and more recently covered by novelty act Cartoons. It is featured in the Neil Jordan film Breakfast on Pluto. The song has been covered in many languages, including Vietnamese, Khmer, Korean, Spanish and German. A dance song in German to the same tune, Reiss die Hütte ab (Tear the hut down), was recorded by Mickie Krause (Apres Ski Hits 2003). The PJ Harvey song Nina In Ecstasy contains an interpolation of the lines "Where's your mama gone (Where's your mama gone) / Far far away". the song was also covered on the Top of the Pops, Volume 18 album. The song was also covered by the British band Lush in 1990 and released on the compilation album Alvin Lives (in Leeds). Norwegian comedy duo Tom Mathisen and Herodes Falsk made a tongue-in-cheek parody of this song in Norwegian for their album Børre & Gibb's Happy Hour (52 min.) (1995). The name of the song was parodied in the title of Father Ted episode Chirpy Burpy Cheap Sheep. References 1. BBC - Top of the Pops 2 - Where Are They Now? 2. www.last.fm/music/Lally+Stott Lally Stott

Tonight super nostalgia noise ........... Yup, something originally from UK and then to Australia and back to UK ........... So UK and Australia can lay 'territorial" rights to them ....... Oh, yes, please do karaoke along as this song is too good not to do so. Here: Feel I'm goin back to Massachusetts Somethings telling me I must go home And the lights all went out in Massachusetts The day I left her standing on her own Tried to hitch a ride to San Francisco Gotta do the things I wanna do And the lights all went out in Massachusetts They brought me back to see my way with you Talk about the life in Massachusetts Speak about the people I have seen And the lights all went out in Massachusetts And Massachusetts is one place I have seen I will remember Massachusetts (I will remember Massachusetts) (repeat to fade) Oops, wrong timing .......... That should be Saturday .......... getting a bit too engross in them ........ What the heck, sing ......... Night Fever lyrics Listen to the ground There is movement all around There is something goin' down And I can feel it On the waves of the air There is dancin' out there If it's somethin we can share We can steal it Sweet city woman moves through the light Controlling my mind and my soul Reach out for me, yeah and the feelin' is bright (chorus) Then I get night fever, night fever We know how to do it Gimme that night fever, night fever We know how to show it Here I am Prayin' for this moment to last Livin' on the music so tight Born on a wish Makin' it mine (chorus) In the heat of our love Don't need no help for us to make it Gimme just enough to take us to the mornin' I got fire in my mind I got higher in my walkin And I'm glowin in the dark I give you warnin' Sweet city woman moves through the light Controlling my mind and my soul Reach out for me, yeah and the feelin' is bright (chorus) Here I am Prayin' for this moment to last Livin' on the music so tight Born on a wish Makin' it mine (chorus) (repeat to fade)

I remember hearing Ian Dury perform a live version of Plaistow Patricia on Radio One years ago. He replaced the opening profanity with the names of Radio One Disc Jockey's. "Tony Blackburn ...... etc.
Great stuff!
I wish I could remember the names of the other DJ's. It's only poor old Tony that stays in the memory.

A couple of good ol' blasts from the past...
IMHO a perfect blend of rock and blues.
Moving on to Rainbow "Rising" now....

I was messing about with my new toy yesterday (the M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 USB) to try and get the hang of the settings etc.
I used a tape of Rick Wakemans "Legends..." (LP packed away) with decent results, anyway I digress. This...

Tiny Fish - The big red spark (thanks Ian!! I's a classic prog rock in the making Mike. It's not at all bad Ian..... will have to listen to it a few times to truly appreciate the tapestry. Listening to "Thud" now... not my cup of tea, sounds a bit like an American "Tom Robinson" (to me) with a typically (annoying) American backing band.... lots of words but comes across as "plastic" to my ears (Typically American).... I think one listen to this will be enough for me and I'll park the disc in the "Americana" section

Yes, very different to European Prog Rock Mike.
Although I wrote about an IQ album on the CD sharing area, I must admit, I've now been through a load of their stuff and it is extremely variable. The vocals in particular (in recent albums) are a bit iffy.
I like 'Dark Matter' but stuff from 2000's doesn't seem to hit home as well.

Ian, I'd agree after trawling through youtube, Dark Matter is the stand out album.
Back to my more common trawling, my old (as in not played since I left the UK!) cassette collection has been unearthed, first real gem to hit the heads is "Exit Stage Left" by Rush. Just fab.
