Hi,
I'm a newbie hear [pun intended] ....
Are there any subjects that are out of bounds in an Audio sense ...ie cables or cd treatments.
I don't want to tread on any toes.......
I'm and inveterate modder ....and in the end tweak all my gear .....and so far[ IMO] for the better.
I've modded the following to a greater or smaller extent MF X psu [built from scratch] MF X-DAC Thorens TD160 bc Nad 3020 Nytech ca 252 Incatech Claymore Sony MDS-JE520 Denon DRM 12 HX Denon DCD 920 Denon TU260L Pioneer pd906 Sonic impact T-amp Nos Dac Nos Dac power supply build Lite Dac -AH [current project] Arcam A5 cdp Arcam 7se cdp plus some others that I've forgoten about
I've also built several sets of speakers, a preamp, a poweramp and all my cables to my own designs.
Any way Theres some nice tweak sections here so I thought I join you as you all see to have the same philosophy as myself....unlike some other forums !
I'll try to post only useful stuff and not be too outrageous !

Hi Zanash, welcome to the machine!
Great to have you on board and anything goes here (unless it's total rubbish in which case it "goes" in the bin) in fact if you're really up on cables and the like I could create a new board. Any ideas are welcome.
Enjoy the music.

Would be refreshing to have actual adult conversation on such things.Out of bounds ? heh, nothing comes to mind just yet............ looking at the mod/built list you should fit right in with this band of outlaws and you were doing so well up to that point ! ONLY useful stuff ? Pretty fking boring actually Well in THAT case ! my preference has over time gone from cheap ass Radio Shack or "whatever came with the product" cables to fancy ass "cables as jewelry" for way too much loot to finally simple is best solid conductors with shitty RCA plugs, usually nickel plated "crapola" but have not had one fail yet (inserts tongue sticking out emoticon here). I would take heavy nickel over gold " flash" any day if that flash is one of the common garbage metal base/thin gold plating jacks or plugs so many use thinking they have "improved" a piece of gear. NOT ! In fact they may have spent actual loot to take a step back from the original factory parts. I have made cables from three strands of CAT-6 in a PBJ type braid that sounded damn fine even if a bit cheesy looking. I have made cables using 30 guage wire using teflon packing tape as the Hot/common separator and 10/$5 RCA plugs that WHIPPED ASS but looked so weird and were so damn fragile they could not last "in system".some things work on one level while being unworkable in another and this is one of those I have made cables using generic plugs and stock "off the spool" Beldon coax that sounds better than 90% of all the after market high ticket cables I have heard and finally I now use simple magnet wire "twist" in 24 guage over a cotton core that seems to sound as good as any of the above and costs maybe $10/pair to make I refuse to buy into the "ooh, looks good I bet it sounds good too" that most audio cables have built their reputation on and the day i spend $1K for a 1M pair of interconnects i truly hope someone beats the living shit out of me on the grounds i have finally lost it and maybe a "good beatin'' will bring me back around (inserts devil emoticon here....) then again,YMMV and most likely does.................
