Why convert.. A creative X-fi xtreme audio notebook? If your notebook has a X-fi xtreme internal card and spdif out. What kind of sound files are you using? mp3?, flac?, etc. Are you using ASIO? The X-Dac V3 is not a bad dac, even better when modded,,,,, But it depends on what you feed it. Hmmm "The X-Dac V3 is not a bad dac" Alex is goin to hammer me for this one

Umm, the X-can v3 is only a can amp and has no dac. I've got one of these: and the sq could be a lot better.

Allan The X-DAC V3, is not a bad DAC. It's just nowhere near as good in it's standard form, as all the hype from MF and many magazine reviewers would have you believe. But I'm not telling you anything that you don't already know ! ;D

skunkworks The X-FI has Optical out. It doesn't need to be a USB DAC. As Allan asked, what kind of files are you playing, and are you using Asio (or Creative Media Source player ) ?

Oh I didn't get that part sorry. I use wav files only (allergic to mp3) and I tried the asio for all but couldn't get it to detect my soundcard. So if I got it right I can use the optical output to connect to a dac. But doesn't the quality of the soundcard take part in it anymore if I do so? Becouse then might aswel use the onboard realcrap card

Skunkworks Did the software that came with your X-FI card include "Creative Media Source Player" ? (My X-FI Xtreme Music has that player, which also plays Video)

Yes it does but I allways use winamp. I tried the creative program but the asio drivers also didn't work with that one and the snap cracle and pop remover on it make wav files sound like badly compressed mp3's.

? ? ? Playback using Creative Media Source Player on my Desktop PC is superior to Windows Media Player, Power DVD, WinDVD etc. Even LPCM Audio of Music Videos etc. is better too. SandyK

can't get the kernel streaming to work either. oh well, I'll roll tubes and upgrade to a little pinky first (my X-can v3 is 100% stock) and see how it all sounds then.

I see you are using Winamp. You could try removing Asio4all and replacing it with the Otachan ASIO plug-in. This should allow your X-fi xtreme to be recognized within Winamp, providing the Creative drivers support ASIO with your particular model of sound card.
After installing Otachan, check in Winamp > Preferences > Plug-ins > Output. If all is well you should see the ASIO Driver in the list.
Might be worth a try.
