Factory Fresh 6N23p Valves....

I have just taken delivery of a sealed factory warehouse box containing 1000 pieces of 6H23N valves. These are the absolute BEST examples of 6H23N I have ever seen as they have never seen the light of day, are all date coded the same (02/1992) and are all from the same manufacturing plant (Voshod)..........

Usually, with these valves, you'll get them with different date codes and god only knows where they have been / what they have been pulled out of.... it is extremely rare to find an entire box load that have never been in service.

I'm in two minds whether to sell them in pairs or to hold onto them for a couple of years.... the price of these has almost doubled in the past year and it looks like this trend is set to continue as stocks are gradually diminishing.

I'm running a pair in a v2 at the moment and, wowee!, they are bloody GORGEOUS with a very rich, flowing quality to them..... the bass response is absolutely toe curling deep.

The 6N23P I have been supplying in the past have all been tested and pass as "100%" and the feedback I have received has been "raving"....... many guys trying them out as a bang for the buck punt and finding they TROUNCE their expensive mullards and seimens etc.

Thing is...... even I am excited about this batch! I don't know if any of you remember the batch of 6N23P-EB I secured which were in their original cartons secured by rusty staples?...... well, these are pretty much the same kind of find except there's 1000 of them in a sealed factory warehouse box..... very exciting!

Valve heads will tell you......... these kind of finds don't happen very often...... I'll take some photos and may sell a few of them to rock grotto members but the majority of them I'll be holding onto for a while.

That box must be pretty heavy...and fragile. Do valve's have a shelf life or do they only age in use?

Is the 6112 a NU-VISTA, or a MU-VISTA tube ?
The original little metal cased valves from around WW2 were NUVISTOR. I had a few 6CW4 High-MuTriode. NUVISTOR TYPE valves. They were much smaller and more robust .

Quick off question ... Did anybody compared X-10D V2 and V3 versions ? I mean already modified, for example in a way Pink is suggesting ...

I am very happy with the moded V2 (or is it V1 version ?) but I wonder whether V3 would be even better ...

Do you hear a difference w/ the X-10 V2 in the signal path?

I am using X units in the following configuration:

- source: SqueezeBox Duet and DVD player Sony DVP-NS 900
- Both sources are connected to MF X-DAC V2 (Sony with optical and SB Duet with coax cable)
- One output of MF X-DAC V2 goes into MF X-10D V2 and then further into amp ...
- Second output of MF X-DAC V2 goes into MF X-CAN V2.
- All of them are supplied by MF X-PSU - external MF transformer ...

Your question referrs to trhe usage of X-10D V2 ... and I tested the sound with and without it ... and I keep using it between DAC and amp because there is a slight improvement in performance with this buffer. Not a very big though ... And I am using some very fine and expencive parts in that buffer like: Telefunken NOS E88CC tubes, Auricap caps at the output, lot of Caddock resitors (all on the signal path), etc.

I hope this gives you a better picture about my experiences with this MF unit ...

These 6N23p, are they as detailed as the Tesla's on the top end?? Do they have good separation, like the Tungsram red label?

What price you want for 2? Are you able to match them.....

I believe that the usage of this buffer has sense there where the source has quite large output impedance - let's say about 1K or more ... This buffer converts such input impedances into 30 ohm at its output and that is an easy load for the next stage in the HiFi line. I believe that the usage of this buffer should be determined by this fact. If the CD player or DAC already has a very low output impedance, the benefits of this buffer will be much harder to be heard. Not impossible though ...

I've decided to hold onto the vast majority of these as they are becomming more and more rare by the day and, as a result, a lot more expensive. It wasn't too long ago you could get these for pennies..... not now!

I secured a large batch of 6N23P-EB in sealed containers not too long ago see here and sold them at £20 per pair..... try to obtain these from source these days for less than a tenner EACH, you just can't do it and try to find them in sealed cartons....... impossible!

The well is running dry and top quality / unused examples are becomming nigh on impossible to find...... the batch of 6N23P I have secured are PRISTINE and I am going to lay them down in a cool place for a couple of years to mature

I will sell off 25 pairs at £20 per pair, PM me if you want a pair.
