I have the X-Can v8 with the Little Pinkie (Thanks PinkFloyd!). What is healthier for the amp, switch the Pinkie off after every use or just leave it on?
Thanks

Hi guys. I have the X-Can v8 with the Little Pinkie (Thanks PinkFloyd!). What is healthier for the amp, switch the Pinkie off after every use or just leave it on? Thanks The v8 is not a hothouse like the v2 so the 85C capacitors are not going to be subjected to so much heat..... sooooo, won't do the caps any harm from leaving it on. Valves are like a light bulb and they usually pack in at switch on (so "they" say") so some say leave 'em on, others say switch 'em off. Consider that the valves are designed to be used in military equipment and you'll soon realise these aren't fragile things that need to be handled by audiophiles wearing white gloves... they'll take one hell of a beating, and then some.... take the 6N23P for example.... will survive multiple impacts with acceleration up to 15g....... they're built to withstand warfare for christ sake.... I, personally, turn my gear off when I'm not using it with the exception of the Graham Slee Solo which stays on all the time as it really is temperature dependant..... give the X-Can an hour or so to warm up and you're good to go.

Military? Wow, I didn't know that... Good to know! lol
So u're saying it doesn't really matter but the amp should heat up before it gives its best....

Miguel Are you referring to the amplifier, or do you chuck a tantrum because your meal isn't ready, or you got a knockback ? I guess you mean that you turn it OFF when you are through for the day ? P.S. Chuck out all those electricity guzzling vaccuum tube amplifiers, and save money not only on electricity, but the cost of replacement tubes on a regular basis, as well as all the time spent searching for them, and P and P costs.
