considering the w1000 as an upgrade over my a900s. i have been looking at AT's site and the specs seem identical! i know the w1000 is constructed of better quality material, but is it just the wood that alters the sound? are the drivers the same? i assume the cable will be better quality, but is the SQ really that much better than what i already have? thanks for your help

i'd say go with some denon phones if you want to spend more money. the things i hear about these ad7000's bass are very enticing.

thanks but i think they would be too expensive. i could possibly stretch to the d5000, though! i am curious to try an open can this time too. just to complicate matters ;D there are too many options, and no real chance to audition. this i find really frustrating, but hey , its only money! (cant take it with ya)

I owned both, the A900 and the W1000. Actually I thought the A900 did sound better than the W1000 and were far better value for money. As the AT house sound isn't my cup of tea I sold both in the end - there is this colored quality that sounds completely unnatural with acoustic material that I cannot stand. The Denon D5000 which I now do own as my 'closed' home pair of cans are better in any way! Even the D2000 might be better than the W1000 though.

I love my D5000, specially after MarkL modded them and installed the larger bubinga wood cups.
