I didn't know where this fit, but as it is a recap + other and asking for advice, here it is. I have being having trouble with it seems all things electrical lately. Things breaking down that shouldn't, so I'm organising a power conditioner as a first line of defence. And now for the repairs. My A300 has slightly bulging power caps and typically cheap caps so what to change those to and are there any other parts worth changing while the board is out and it's possible ? As a start 6700uf 65v power capacitors to 10000uf 65v is this good? I have done two V2's one silmic/mundorf based the other as per a pinkie kit + orange caps. I'm thinking along those lines but any opinion is appreciated. Thanks David

Hi David,
Things electrically or electronically breaking down can also be due to the items needing some service. A good example is the electrolytic power caps. You better change before they dry up and short the circuitries. You can also measure whether there is any overvoltage, instead of guessing, in your area using a DMM. However, you must know what you are doing before trying that as that is fatal voltage you are dealing with.
From 6700 uf to 10,000 uf should be fine and the power supply should be able to take the extra surge. However, the equipment fuse may not. While you are there, perhaps change any other caps to better caps as well. I prefer the PP and Teflon over the oil caps. Also, if the resistors are not 1% metal film, do consider changing them as well.
However, you have not mentioned what is the equipment you are changing the power caps. If it's a dac, there will be more experts here that can help you out here like Alex, Leo and Ricky.

David Are you replacing those caps because the A300 has failed, or as a preventative/upgrade measure ? If the equipment is working O.K. , then I would consider doing what Chong has suggested. Alex

The A300 is dual mono integrated 150w @ 8 ohm per channel amp. The sound is a bit noisier and hasn't failed yet but I don't want to wait until it does. Would putting a slightly larger slow blow fuse be OK or would that endanger the amp it already uses slow blow fuses? Thanks David

David A wise move. I would be surprised if the existing slow blow fuse isn't adequate. Alex

The last of my capacitors arrived today and finally my Musical fidelity A300 is finished and working. I got that typical wow when I hooked it all up again. If you have done an X? component recap you know what I mean. It has been said before and I'm saying it again get rid of the stock capacitors replace them with your favourite flavour and you will be happier. Straight off the bat it's better but I can't wait till it all forms and gets up to speed. My changes were Diodes; 4007 to Ultra fast 4007. Film caps; stock to Evox & Wima. Electroltics ; Teapo to Mostly Elna Silmic Nichicon muse (6800uf 63v to 10000uf 63v) Non-polars ; teapo to Black gate N. Steel hook up wire to Cardas litz between the board and speaker terminals. The fuses are the same but I may swap them for slightly heavier ones anyway as mentioned before. Pinky your X component tweaks work just as well for the bigger stuff too. Thanks for your help everybody, David.

david For heavy duty supply wiring and speaker wiring, the inner silver plated copper braiding used in some coax cables for screening, works very nicely if flattened, and stretched by hand, then shoved inside a piece of heatshrink tubing. Solder the ends though. The heavier duty stuff also is great for earth straps under the bonnet in some cars to assist quiet radio reception. Alex

Is there a list available of the components needed?

I'll see if I still have those important scraps of paper I wrote it all down on. I'm definitely happier with the amp now.

My A300 has been recap with Panasonic FC's en BG N's. The Big Caps were already 10000 mcF, now changed in Panasonics. Already a big improvement. thinking of changing the diodes en film caps too. Now very quiet and smooth sounding. In combination with A3CD and A324DA converter (also recapped and N5532 changed in BB OPA627) very musical.
