I didn't really get the impression the British Press did not like it. I got the impression they just thought there were better ones around a similar price range, though the V-DAC is said to have a certain character than some might find appealing.
Initial thoughts of owners are very positive. It is certainly a DAC I am looking at, since this is the one component I do not have yet. I am looking to take advantage of the optical outut of my Sony PCM D50.

That was my reading of the review also.
I am afraid that I am very sceptical about all those reviews, after finding that the MF X-DAC V3 didn't even come close to all the hype, without extensive modification. 2 friends who bought those around the same time were also left a little underwhelmed.
