I spent days researching on a good amp for K701(my cousin is going to give k701 to me as a x-mas present~), I finally decided to buy Heed Canamp. I saw a lot of good review on it, it fits K701 ,and it's not too expensive. BUT, where can I find one? ??!!!!!(I live in Texas, US) K701 will be my first pair of high-end headphones, actually the first pair of headphones....I have bose in-ear and a pair of Shure right now. Should I get cheaper headphones first to get some experience or just get the K701? HELP!

Hi Alex,
If I were you I'd jump straight in at the deep and and go with the K-701 (especially if they are going to be a "gift"!) they are very nice headphones indeed and the Heed canamp should drive them very well. K-701 will take a bit of time to burn in and the best way to do burn them in is by listening to them on your head!
A very stylish, good sounding pair of 'phones I'm sure you will enjoy them.
All the best,
Mike.

Thank you guys for the help. Just curious, will it be absolutely impossible to drive it without an amp? I mean directly connect it to a computer.

It's definitely possible... However! I have one of the beta Novo units for audition... and I almost wish I hadn't, because the difference over direct out of the soundcard is such that I'll have to get me an amp. Had no idea what my HD600s were capable of till I heard the Novo. What soundcard you running?

No. not impossible...... you don't need an amp to drive the K-701 but you DO need an amp if you are to drive them properly. Think of the K-701 as a large car..... unamped you are trying to propel that car with a lawnmower engine, amped you are driving it with a v8 engine..... there is a difference!

To be honest yes you can drive the 701's from the MBP but as mike says it's better if you have an Amp somewhat better audio with an amp even the Silicon Chip Headphone Amplifier and analogue out from the MBP is a great combo

NO....... I got lots of SCHOOL WORK - my project is to draw a car or a jet engine in AutoCAD and Inventor. I'm working on that right now. BUT I've been trying to find one on the craigslist.... By the way, I'm now using my onkyo home theater amplifier to burn my K701. Unfortunately, the 1/4in to 1/8in adapter is missing, so I called AKG, but they said that they don't take care of headphones bought online..... I just contacted the seller on amazon and I'm hoping to get it soon.
