Probably been covered here before but the question is what connector do you use to amp your iphone? I automatically assumed that my ipod lineout to amp input connector would work with the iphone but it doesn't so, obviously, the iphone pinout is different to that of the iphone. I've spent an enjoyable 10 days with ipod / voyager / Audio Technica W-1000 (full "in the field" report to follow in a seperate thread) and, seeing I'm still in "portable" mode, thought I'd fire the iphone into the mix and see how it fared......... Best laid plans of mice and men.... why is it that all these components require different connectors, it's bloody annoying! Portable soon becomes "portable with a fekkin' rucksack full of interconnects"..... not exactly "plug and play" is it? at the end of the day a bastard Dansette and 20 LP's would be easier to carry round ;D Anyways, before I start ranting..... iphone lineout to amp input connector........ any ideas? Cheers, Pinkie. PS: not very often I delve into the depths of "music on the move" so please be gentle with me

PS: not very often I delve into the depths of "music on the move" so please be gentle with me IIRC the ipod and iphone have same pin out on the white connector the iphone 3G is different. Don't bother with the 3.5 jack out [shudder] it's crap! store.apple.com/us/product/MB484

images.google.com/images?sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-US&ie=utf8&oe=utf8&q=iphone%203g%20dock%20connector&um=1&sa=N&tab=widamn shame you can't directly access the digital stream of Apple products but being the pricks that they are you must "Liscence" the use or you are caught out with Wadia as far as i know being the ONLY non-Apple manufacturer that can output the stream for use with an external aftermarket DAC.Why this is important is as thing become more and more popular and the cost to manufacture keeps going up corporate decisions are made to "cut cost" as has already taken place when Apple went from using the Wolfson DAC in earlier models to an inferior sounding Cirrus Logic chip leaving the end user NO OPTIONS in the SQ upgrade path other than bypassing the also crap sounding (compared to what it COULD be ) analog section and using an external one built into a Dock. Good luck Mike but as always i REFUSE to buy a product from a company that operates this way no matter how cool the products so I am not much help on the actuals as I would be if I too baught in to the "i" Generation corporate hype ;D

Rick, politics aside, the iphone 3G is an amazing little gadget as it puts the world (the internet) at your fingertips and does just about anything you can imagine.... I would never listen to music from a phone but this isn't a phone is it? It's a mini home entertainment centre (and then some) with a phone included.... SQ from the head out is bastard decent (for the size of the thing) and it doesn't make a bad job of driving the Audio Technica W1000.... of course, the soundstage isn't as wide as a football pitch nor are the dynamics mind blowing but, for what it is, a bloomin' enjoyable listen and certainly no shame to it. Like it or lump it, this is now the norm and set to get even more "star trek" as the years pass.... I like it! The politics I don't like but the technology is bloody amazing...... "tubes" my arse!..... they're for grumpy old dinosaurs with attitude

Personally I'll wait for the alternative models from other manufacturers which will come soon and be less anal about keeping everything "in house or go fk yourself" like the Apple products and if not ? The world will not come to a screeching halt and in fact, was a lot simpler when a person had to actually be near a phone to bother someone or at home to BE bothered (cells),we did not use the internet as a social life and we had to actually lug our "hard copy" music around making the choice of more of a personal best that day rather than "I want it all but can't decide what t listen to" music dump

oh and BTW-after all that I am currently in the design/prototyping stages of a "universal" dock for iPods,iPhones,Bluetooth,USB Flash AV,Flash Card AV and portable CD player digital out with the output to be in the raw video/digital audio domain for use with external devices.
Like you said, can't stop progress so if it works out maybe I too can become cool ;D

Mike, I also have sold my soul and I have a 3G iPhone (8 Gb model). However I still carry my 160 Gb iPod Classic, amp, line out, and Yuin OK1 buds. I still have my 30GB ipod but don't really use it unless I go away on holiday and, even then, it's only for a pretty short period of time. Yes, shazam is very cool... you may also want to try "around me" and "wolfgang's vault"..... another couple of cool apps (don't tell Rick but they are FREE too) sssshhh! don't tell everybody, they'll all want a piece of the action ;D
